HO / e-Z track 22 " R inner oval
March 19, 2011, 01:00:15 AM
Creating a parallel inner loop  to an 18 R oval is simple: std  LH turnout - 4 x 18"R curve tracks - std RH turnout.

I want to create the same configuration for a 22 " R oval. I mistakenly bought a pair of (expensive) E-Z track #5 turnouts expecting to achieve what I want by a #5 LH turnout - 6 X 18"R curve tracks- #5 RH turnout. Well, I quickly learned that this doesn't work for an 8 x 4 layout; my assumptions concerning the geometry of an E-Z track #5 turnout were completely wrong.

I have seen copious discussions in this form concerning solving the problems of mixed-mode 18R and 22R layouts, none of which provides the simple configuration I am looking for.

I have two questions:
1. Is there a Bachmann E-Z track (or any other compatible brand) turnout which will provide the 22R inner parallel semi-circle that I described above?
2. If the answer to "1" id "No", what would be the best solution, preferably not including embedded 18R sections of track?

Thanks

HO / Placing an HO 4-8-4 steam locomotive on tracks

I have another "beginners question"
My daughter  gave me a gs-4 Morning Daylight loco for my 70th birthday. ( Good girl! ).

I have a hell of a job setting the locomotive with wire-tethered tender on the tracks. I seem to be juggling the leading loco truck, drive wheels, and trailing truck, and tender in vain (most of the time) without getting them all lined up. I suspect that I'm missing some fundamental methodology. I don't see how the re-railer would help me with this situation.  Help!

Thanks for the surprising answer (that's a real flair for detail on Bachmann's part). I have a follow-up question. How much do I have to remove to be able to grease the gears; it is not intuitively obvious to me when looking at the parts expansion diagram. I wish Bachmann (and others) would supply some sort of guideline for maintenance disassembly for the varioud types of locomotives. I did manage to get the body off a Bachmann Royal Scot to lube the gears but that was an easy one.

HO / Coal Dust/Graphite lubricant with ho shay

I have a feeling this is a dumb dumb question; however I received my first electric train last christmas at the age of 69.
Today, I received a wonderful 70th birthday present from my wife - a Spectrum HO Shay with DCC Sound. I'm absolutely delighted with the loco but what the hell is the see-thru packet of what looks like powdered graphite that came with it? Is it special lubricant for the gear-work? Is it to make the coal tender look more realistic? Neither answer seems very plausible to me.

By the way, is there any special lubrication that should be done for the Shay gear-work?

Thanks

What era-authentic logging-related rolling stock would be available for the DCC Sound-Equipped 80 Ton Three-Truck Shay?

Thanks

Thanks.
Is there a list available on this forum of ho locomotives versus minimum radius? I have a feeling that people, including myself, are probably covering old ground with questions like mine.

Thanks

What is minimum radius track for this loco?
What era-compatible coaches are available?

Thanks,
