They have that set brand new for $50 at a nearby Hobby Shop. I think you have it overpriced, I would say a more suitable price for a used set would be $25-30. Also you may have better luck selling it at a model train show/flea market, however you have to pay for a table at the show or flea market which normally costs $15-30, which means you would only have a net profit of at most $15, but actually less after figuring for the cost of gas for your car. Which means your best bet is to give it away to a kid who would enjoy it.

Bachmann would need their own unique design. They may not choose to offer the FRED in N scale as it likely would not be cheaper than the existing ones available.

If your locomotive is not not DCC-ready in the sense that everything is isolated then it is actually not from the latest run but the run before it. The newest version has everything necessary electrically isolated to allow a DCC install. You could have possibly bought one that was old stock leftover without realizing it.

My local hobby shop has the following policy regarding repairs, parts and servicing:
If you didn't buy it from him then then you are SOL. That is if you bought something online or mail order then he would not touch it or help you. He doesn't even really care at this point if he loses your business anyways as he is retiring at the end of this year or next year at which point the hobby shop is closing permanently.

You can always install your own sound decoder and speaker so you don't have to wait, who knows when they will make one.

This is a yellow bonnet, the loco in the link is not a yellow bonnet. Technically speaking it is a "freight bonnet". So freight locomotives with red and silver would still technically be war bonnet, while those using blue and yellow would be  freight bonnet while the red and yellow would be Kodachrome (but SP never merged and most were repainted).

This is a Blue Bonnet, and they have been made in HO scale too. There is also a yellow and gold bonnet in the same general scheme.

Input a value of 8 for configuration variable number 8 to reset it.
If that does not work try replacing the decoder.

The Hornby Select is one of the few DCC systems that actually is not NMRA compliant. Hornby DCC systems in general work best with Hornby decoders, as Hornby uses some proprietary technology that NMRA compliant systems and decoders do not utilize it is similar to how MTH has their own proprietary command system DCS but their locomotives have limited DCC functionality.
All of Bachmann's decoders that they have used in any of their locomotives or sold for separate sale have been NMRA compliant including TCS , Tsunami, Lenz, et al.

The locomotive either has a broken or burnt out smoke unit.
If you run the locomotive at (literally) full speed for a hour and it doesn't work then your only option is to replace the smoke unit.
The smoke fluid I think is polypropylene glycol and as far as I know it can't really go bad, unless it somehow got mixed with water and the fluid became segregated.
My personal advice is to for go the smoke as it leaves and oily residue on the track that affects conductivity and operation and will require frequent track cleaning.

Any DCC-Ready locomotive will run on analog DC without any compatibility issues since DCC-Ready locomotives do not have a decoder.
The same cannot be said for all DCC-Equipped or DCC On Board locomotives. Early decoders were not dual mode and even some recent sound decoders are not dual mode. All of Bachmann North America's latest product offerings in HO and N scale with DCC or DCC and sound with the possible exception of a couple locomotives are equipped with dual mode decoders. Dual mode decoders allow analog DC operation or digital operation (DCC), however they perform best when using a Digital Command Control System.

You are either thinking of a more recent sound equipped decapod or you are mistaken because the very first Bachmann HO scale locomotives released with sound actually had full Tsunami decoders, sometime thereafter they developed special decoders for Bachmann to use. The only locomotives I recall being produced with a full sound decoder off-hand are the 2-8-0, 2-10-0 and possibly the 2-6-6-2 with USRA tender not the later model with the Vandy tender.
