Can Ross or Gargraves switches be connected to Lionel O27 track?

Trouble is, I have only a 12 by 8 space, so O-72's and even 48's are very large in that space. I think I'll end up trying some FT 36 switches. Anybody know if they'll work with a Williams baby 4-6-4?

Previous post talked about derailing WBB semi-scale or "baby" Hudson on new Lionel O-27 switches. They won't work smoothly with this engine! So I plan to sell off the tubular track. What's your favorite non-tube track for Willaims engines?

Thanks, DominicMazoch. I have the baby and 4 baby passenger cars. Mail order place said all would go around O-27, and they do, most of the time, but the engine always balks and jumps even if it makes it through the diverging route of the switches. Do you know if FT manual switches are non-derailing like the remotes? This would save me some moola on my loop to loop simple layout if I buy FT. Thanks again.

I am new to O gauge and need the advice of someone who knows. My beautiful new Williams by Bachmann Hudson steamer is apparently not made for Lionel O-27 tube track switches. They are obviously made cheaply, and the engine either jumps when it enters the curved route of the switch (it goes okay through the straight-through routing), or completely binds up in the switch and comes to a sudden and frustrating and unacceptable stop! So my question is: Which would be better....work on the switch (which I have no clue how to do), or change to the new Fastrack, which would be 36 inch radius and probably would not stop the engine. My layout space is small.......just a dogbone loop to loop. Are Fastrack manual switches non-derailing? If they are, a loop to loop would have no need to power them.
I'm still like a 5 year old on Christmas morning, and love to just watch a train roll while I work on buildlings and scenery. Any help will be appreciated. This is an awesome place for newbies to get answers.

Thanks all of you for your answers. Actually, my MRC trans. is running the train just fine, with lights, whistle, and bell, too. Probably will be okay. I'll monitor for overheating and let others know if it's a problem.

Thanks, JP! I appreciate you taking the time to post. An old freind told me my 64 watt transformer will not hurt the engine, and he's right. Everything works, inclduing whistle and bell. The layout is small anyway. Man, this thing is fun!

Just curious. This website offers only an 80 watt transformer under "track and accessories" for Williams trains like the one I just bought. The Hudson engine instructions state it should be run by a transformer of at least 90 watts. What's up? Any recommendations on a good transformer would be appreciated.

Long time model railroader, but no O scale since 1960! New Williams semi-scale Hudson arrived today, and this is going to sound like I work for WBB, but man! That thing is beatiful. Weighs about 6 pounds, so very solid feel. Wonderful. Just a couple of questions. I never lubricated engines when I was a kid? Is it hard to do? Instructions look fairly easy. What kind of oil should be used? Second and more important question: Can anyone recommend a good transformer for this engine with its four lighted passenger cars on a small one track layout? I have an MRC AC 1301 Throttlepack, but it's rated at only 64 Watts, and WBB recommends at least 90 watts for this engine, so I am afraid of damaging the motor with the weaker transformer. Any power suggestions around $100 or less?

Just wondering if the Madison cars have three axle trucks. If so, O 27 might be a problem. WBB semi-scale cars that specify O-27 of course will work, but I would be cautious about using anything on O-27 if it specifies an O-31 minimum. I'll bet they were serious about that measurement!
