It seems strange to me that sound-enabled Thomas comes with a factory fitted speaker, but when I enquired with Bachmann Uk about purchasing for the after-market sound module, I'm told you have to source your own...

Can anyone recommend something suitable? I have large scale Thomas, Percy and James

I'm in the UK and need the cables on an Industrial Mogul that connect the tender to the loco. Had a word with a Bachmann Rep who said I should order spares through my model shop.

The model shop advised me to contact Bachmann directly.  Huh?

Does anyone know if Bachmann Uk actually carries spares like this or do I have to try Stateside?

Trainguy - there's some pretty esoteric equipment in someof those images

I saw the Wild Goose RR 'loco' and immediately thought Aha! use the t-boiler from an 0n30 shay, power trucks from a Climax, 20 foot flat wagon, cobble up a roof with canvas sides and you'd have something pretty similar....

I've run my Connie successfully through Train Line45 R2 (3ft radius approx) turnouts with no problem.  And this was through an 'S' curve too (ie two turnouts together)   

Interestingly, my Mogul - only 6-coupled - didn't fare so well

and the Shay derailed every time...

Here's my Big Hauler ten wheeler posing as D&RGW T12 #167 on ploughing duties... I'll try and find out where the plough came from but a mod to the front was required. It was quite effective with the snow we had in the UK recently...

That's an interesting idea, NM - I wouldn't have thought of that.

The TOFC has arrived and is looking good - although I have to say that my eye was immediately drawn to the tyres on the trailer - will have to do something to make them look less 'plasticky'.

Otherwise very pleased in what is, I think, a very interesting piece of kit. Shame it's no longer in production....

Thanks for clarifying this, Barry. Being a relative Noob I was under the impression from your website that the 2-8-0 chassis was offered as a Big Hauler 4-6-0 conversion! D'oh!

Mr Bach-man,

I assume from the above that you may also do the wagon graphics? If so, is there any chance that you could vary the road numbers for each production batch? (I'm also assuming here that the masks don't last forever?)

For example, I have five D&RGW gondolas, purchased over the years, and they all have the same road number.... I'm sure that the D&RGW must have had more than one of these!

I have managed to acquire a Big Hauler ET&WNC Trailer on a Flat Car #98320 and was wondering if anyone can recommend a suitable tractor unit to go with it?

Haven't actually received it yet but I've made the assumption that you can take the trailer off the flatcar....

I get confused about this whole gauge scale issue and I've found you can't just say 'ah so it is g scale' without further qualification...

as I understand it - and I'm sure the others will correct me - 'G' isn't actually a scale - it's a gauge (45mm) - but is different things to different folk, dependant upon what they are modelling and which supplier they use.

A scale is actually a ratio rather than a gauge, and there are a number of scales that use 45mm track

For example (in the UK at least) 10mm scale uses 45mm scale track but is known as Gauge 1 and represents standard gauge at a scale of 1:32  - confusingly, Aristocraft (in the US) also use 45mm gauge track but have adopted 1:29 as the scale - but still representing 'standard gauge' trains.

LGB and others including the Bachmann 'Big Haulers' series use 1:22.5 as the scale, which models metre gauge (3 foot 3 and a bit) in real life (although the Big Haulers are supposed to represent 3 foot gauge prototypes);

whereas Fn3 scale also uses 45mm gauge track but represents true 3 foot narrow gauge at a scale of 1:20.3 (Bachmann's 'Spectrum' range for example);

there's also 1:24 and 16mm scales that can use G gauge track - others too...

To add to the confusion some manufacturers state 'G gauge' or 'Gauge 1' on the box but don't state a scale... or worse still actually state 'G Scale' on the box!

Mine negotiates R1 ok but looks better on 5ft dia and above

oh - it didn't like Aristocraft R1 turnouts in one direction ( can't remember which way)
