Put me down as a modeller who doesn't like the uninformed assumptions, and complaints, being made by some On30 modellers. Bachmann are doing a great job for the On30 modellers in difficult times, and can't do everything that everyone wants. Wait for new models to come, and buy them if they are what you want. If they aren't what you want, many others will surely be satisfied with them, so don't complain; it is counter productive as I see it, for no good reason.
I have suggested models I would like to see in the past, but I am happy to accept what comes, and wait patiently and hope they might be done, rather than complain they haven't been done.
In the meantime get on with it, and enjoy your railroading.

This topic was covered some time ago in a post on this forum, but I can't find it at the moment.
However, Jamie at Soundtraxx supplied the CV settings needed to make the lights directional, and I kept a hard copy of those settings.
They are :- Set CV 33 to value 1
                  Set CV 34 to value 2
This will give you directional lighting.

I found I couldn't get the lights to dim effectively using the supplied instructions, so I fitted an 8.2K resistor in each light circuit so they would both be dimmer all of the time, which is what I wanted.

I would definitely go for a number of short 4 wheel cabeese in D&RGW, RGS and C&S, even though they wouldn't be prototypical. The usual story about that is " It's my railroad, and even though I want to represent these railroads, I will run what I fancy". On30 for these roads obviously isn't prototypical anyway, but it is great equipment, and is affordable.

I have just run the tape measure over my 2-4-4-2 and the results are as follows:-
Knuckle front to knuckle front is 322 mm (plus a couple of mm each end for the uncoupling pin overhang)
Front of pilot to back of rear steps on tender is 310 mm
Centre of front pony wheel axle to centre of rear tender wheel axle is259 mm
The tender wheels are 13 mm diameter including flange, and11.4 mm at the tread
The front pony wheel is 11.2 mm diameter including the flange, and 9.2 mm at the tread
If you use the extending hole in the tender coupling bar, add 4.12 mm to the length measurements.
I hope this info helps.
I suspect you are working out turntable length requirements, and, if so, this should give you what you need.

Sorry about the lack of a photo, but my computer abilities leave a lot to be desired, and I wouldn't have a clue how to attach a photo. Same problem with a link to the WHR site, but when I Google "Welsh Highlands Railway K-1", the first site I get gives me photos of the K-1, and the others will give you access to videos, and more photos. There is plenty of info out there on the loco, without looking too hard.

I believe it needs to be done in 1:48 scale to fit in with the small locos Bachmann have already done.
I have done some comparisons with the K-1 kit that is available in 7mm - foot in Britain, and it makes too much difference in overall size to be acceptable to run with the small Bachmann locos, and still look right, in my opinion.

I know I have mentioned this before, quite a while ago, but I would still like to see Bachmann do a model of the Tasmanian Beyer-Garrat, K-1. This is a very small loco and would fit in nicely with many of the smaller locos that have already been done.
The prototype now resides at the Welsh Highlands Railways, and has been fully restored to running condition, so it wouldn't be a problem to obtain the needed details to build a model.
A look at the WHR site will show many photos, and videos, of this loco in service.

I don't think On30, (particularly Bachmann) is on the decline. You should remember it is not that long ago that the Bach-man assured us that Bachmann wasn't walking away from On30, on this forum. The amount that is produced, and will be produced, is bound to be linked to the current economic climate, and to how much we purchase, so get your wallets open, instead of complaining and scaremongering, and you might get some more new models at a quicker pace.

Hi Everyone,
When I got my Heisler I confirmed the lack of a water hatch on the rear bunker.
I don't really know what Bachmann's intentions were when they designed the Heisler, whether they forgot a water hatch, or left it off intentionally.
I believe it may have been left off intentionally, as I have looked at the photo of the original Heisler that this appears to have been modeled off (which I think I got from an earlier posting on the Bachmann On30 Forum), and it appears to have a siphon hose wrapped around the bunker.
As a result of seeing that, I don't intend to try to build a hatch into my model, which is what I thought I may need to do.

Hello everyone,
I finally got my hands on my Heisler last week. I used Jamie's (Sountraxx) settings for the directional headlights, and that works really well. I also set CV 39 to 128, as Jamie suggested, to dim the headlights.
I couldn't see any difference in the light level, so I reset it again, but still no discernible difference.
I took the boiler front off and squeezed an 8.2K resistor into the headlight wires in there, and did the same in the tender, with the 8.2K resistor above the sound board.
The lights are now quite a lot less intense, and look good to my eye.
The loco, as a whole is a great little model, and runs, and looks, great.

I have contacted Sountraxx regarding the lights in the 2-4-4-2, and I received the same good response from Jaime that you received.
He has told me that the 2-4-4-2 lighting settings are the same as the Heisler, with the only difference being that, in Jaime's words,  "Bachmann programmed the 2-4-4-2 with a modified rule 17 lighting effect where the headlight dims when in reverse and comes on bright when in forward. You can use the same settings that were given for the Heisler unless you wish to use the modified rule 17."

Thank you for that extra info. I have printed it out, and will put it away until I get to see my Heisler, which could be some time away yet, as I am in Australia, and it is coming via the USA.
My layout is still "a work in progress", so all of my locos are still in their boxes (along with everything else).
However my memory tells me the 2-4-4-2 has the same light issues. Do you know if these settings for the Heisler will solve the 2-4-4-2 problems, or, if not, do you know what the settings are for the 2-4-4-2, to achieve the same light settings as the Heisler?

Hi Steve,
I think I am getting too old to keep up to all this "smoke and mirrors" stuff (DCC that is).
I assume there is a CV that has to be set to 128 to assign the dimmable lights to F9 or F10.
If so, could you pleae post the CV number. If this isn't the case, can you please explain what is set to 128 to acheive this.
