On30 / Re: Freight train on the Darjeeling Railway
December 17, 2016, 11:06:55 AM
Indian " standard gauge" is 5 foot.  Meter gauge was also used , mostly in Rajasthan, but much has been converted to 5 ft.  Two ft is for a few feeder lines such as Darjeeling, Simla and the network out of Baroda.  Spent a day there in 1990 at a junction of 5 lines, each of which had a 2 ft train converge within a 15 minute time slot.  Line was powered by Z class outside frame 2-6-2  locos> With all the activity,  a bit like Phillips Maine on the SR&RL.  One train came in with the roof entirely covered in riders, I thought the coaches were going to tip over being so top heavy.

However, not any Indian RR pics yet, but there is a dose of Argentinian 30" gauge.

On30 / Interchangeable Pilots
April 10, 2010, 01:32:55 PM
How about including a choice of pilots with On30 locos ?  Switching style pilots allow a shorter coupler to be used, which lessens the issues of coupling and uncoupling on curves.  Is it too radical to suggest that they could be compatible with Kadees ?  The McHenrys are OK, but Kadees are far more responsive, especially with under track magnets.   Dayveemac

On30 / Re: On30 loco idea

Greetings,  The running gear of this loco could also be used for a tender engine similar to the  Sandy River prairies.  They would sell well with the forney and dual use of the  running gear would provide Bachmann with excellent production efficiencies.  Traingeek

On30 / Dual Purpose Locos

Dear Bachmann,  How about making locos both in saddletank and tender versions?  Mechanism would be the same, making production costs far smaller and giving consumers extra choices.  I would suggest a 2-6-2, but a 2-4-2 would be plausible. Dayvmac
