HO / Re: DCC and Anolog turnout controllers
January 31, 2025, 05:55:44 PM
I Googled this...'Yes, you can control a DC train from a DCC controller, but only if the DC locomotive has a decoder installed that can convert the DCC signal back to DC power for the motor; essentially, this means the DC locomotive needs to be "DCC ready" to operate with a DCC controller.'End of Googled.

From what you said, not sure if you have a dedicated DCC Controller just for turnouts? If train and turnouts are on one controller, then Engine must be DCC ready.

From a post dated and "archived" from June 30th, 2016...Thank you Grapevine Flyer and Len.

The board connections are:

R:    Right Rail
L:    Left Rail
M+: Motor Brush Connected to Right Rail
M-:  Motor Brush Connected to Left Rail
L+:  Light Positive
L-:   Light Negative
B+: Battery Positive*
B-: Battery Negative*

*Some boards allow the addition of a reed switch On/Off controlled battery pack for operation, rather than using track power.

Need advice on this. I need to replace the driver gear on a Spectrum 2-8-0 and recently proved to myself that replacing just the gear is over my head...However...I have a complete driver wheel assembly with gear intact that I can use as a total switch out. I'm thinking that if I secure and maintain the current rod positions on both sides of the engine during the changeout and don't damage the rods I should be ok and not need any Quarterer, etc. What does anyone think? What am I missing?

Troubleshooting a "go then, then stall, then go" issue and after trying everything I know to resolve have decided to remove circuit board and hard wire. It's not my first hard wire so I feel confident when I attempt to do so and will most likely find out once I start confirming what each wire does but I"m use to 6 wires (2 light, 2 rail, 2 motor) coming from the engine not 8. Can anyone tell me what the other 2 wire are for before I dig in?

Thank,

HO / Re: Parts for Baldwin 2-8-0

I agree to a point Trainman...I think Bachmann may be missing an opportunity in the spare parts market? Flip side here is the expense to tool up for mass production, and he cost to the consumer may not be attractive. I would like to see some 63" wheel sets for 4-6-0's...Keep looking and bidding on Ebay is the current trend I guess....

Man you picked a subject that ain't easy or quick to answer. I just went part way through this journey and was unsuccessful. However, I have learned alot. Going forward, I keep an eye open on ebay for wheelsets or even cheap engines sold for parts. I also have some junk that I can learn from to and will probably try soon on a snowy day. There's a thread pertaining to replacing the driver gear on a 4-6-0...Good luck TK!!!

I have three but unsure if they are what you need. Dimensions are 1 7/8"x 1 1/8"x 1/4". I have misplaced the fill lids on two but it would be easy to find something.

HO / Re: Blank Decal Paper - White Lettering

Found my paperwork but I believe they are out of business. To be honest, I can't remember using the product. Business was Micro Format Inc. It works by sprinkling White Letter Powder over the printed black letters...heat and brush off...Anyways found what I needed on K4 Supply Company...Much easier to buy...Happy Thanksgiving to all...

Hey Tenwheeler01...Problem Engine is an older (2004-05) 2-8-0 Spectrum Model DCC Ready. Yes...most likely mechanical. I installed a brand new TCS Decoder, and engine contact plate which didn't totally resolve my issue...It's presently on the workbench awaiting inspection/teardown. It still has the factory circuit board installed which may be coming out or causing the problem. (Your thoughts) I need to brush up on lighting wiring, adding resistor before proceeding with that removal. Basically, it runs smooth for a good distance 20-25 feet of track length and then I see the jerkiness starting....then runs smooth...then jerks...then stops...Does this pulling cars and running solo. Yes..Old Number 5 has a mind of its own.  Thank you for your interest.

HO / Blank Decal Paper - White Lettering
November 25, 2024, 06:10:24 PM
Years ago...many years ago, I purchased blank decal paper that printed lettering in white. The paper 8 1/2 x 11 fit into a regular ink jet type printer. The paper has a light blue backing. The decals are the wet first and slip on kind. You typed the desired lettering on a word document and simply hit print. The results as noted was white lettering...I can't find this product anywhere...Anybody know the vendor?

Never knew decoders got this involved. I'm just trying to get my engines to go forward in a smooth, not jerky
motion. I'm currently using the TCS T4X and not using the Keep Alive Option. As stated before...you guys are very knowledgeable and all is appreciated.
