Thanks for the reply folks, sounds like I need a run in period. Don't have my layout yet, about a month away so I'll let it rest until then. Plenty of other projects to keep me out of trouble. Thanks again.

Here is one of my S4's so you can compare, I don't know if you can hear the engine as well as you would like

A little hard to hear the loco but I think that's what I have for noise. That's quite a layout!

HO / Noisy S2

Just receieved my S2 today. DC, non sound. I plan to put ESU LokSOund in it but noticed it is fairly noisy. I hear gear noise and motor whine. Is this normal or do I have a problem?

It took a while to get in touch with each other, but Bachmann has offered to send me a brand new locomotive to replace the one that is giving me trouble.

I stand corrected. I left my home late in the afternoon and returned to a voicemail from Bachmann's Service manager. They have indicated they will call me on Monday since I missed their call.

Thank you.

Sent email 24 hours ago, no response. Called this morning and the service manager was on break, called back 15 minutes later, left voicemail. No response this afternoon. Called again, left another voicemail.

It's Friday and I give up for this week, I'll get back to it on Monday morning. >:(

Yes, it may have had some rough handling. However, the press fit of the wheel onto the gear should not be so loose. Ditto with the press fit of the sideframe. For me, it puts into question Bachmann's quality. I believe both problems can be fixed with a little glue of some kind. Something strong but not permanent, if I have to take a sideframe off for any reason.

Rough handling also does not account for the bent metal.

To their credit it is a single motor DCC ready chassis. Just a partially broken one.

I had an old 2 motor 44 Tonner that I dug out of storage to find it had a cracked axle problem. Initial conversation with Bachmann was very good. Sent the unit away, and they called to say they would replace the chassis with a new one. So far, so good. Today the unit arrived back in the mail. I was suspicious as the box rattled a great deal. I opened it to discover one truck side frame and a wheel was loose in the box. Not good. I took the shell off and looked closely at the offending truck. It seems the metal "frame" of the truck is bent on that side. I pushed the wheel back in and if it is supposed to be a press fit, it fails. The split axle is very loose in the plastic gear. Maybe some glue? I don't know. It runs. But isn't particularly smooth or quiet. Not even sure I want to detail and paint this up for a CN unit or not. I have too much $ invested in it to sell it except for a loss. I have the original price, plus shipping back to them plus the $45 repair bill.

Dissapointed.

HO / Single Motor 44 tonner DCC Decoder
September 05, 2014, 12:31:13 PM
Bachmann has just repaired my two motor 44 tonner by replacing the chassis with a single motor chassis. I know the new 44 tonner is DCC equipped but the repair guy stated the replacement would not come with DCC. What decoder is best for this unit?

General Discussion / Kudos to the service department

I have only a couple of Bachmann locomotives. One, a GP40 circa 1975 is still running. I had a 44 tonner that went bad after sitting in a box for years. I requested a repair and because I am not a smart man, I ended up with 2 service requests. I called the service department and they cheerfully fixed things up for me. I was just to the post office to ship the unit off and with my positive experience so far, I am hopeful they can get me back up and running!

I could not find a link to contact the service dept. Do you know of an email address?

HO / Possible Repair
March 13, 2013, 05:57:30 PM
I just dug out an old Bachmann 44 tonner that I had stored years ago. It is an undecorated unit and I am planning on painting it. I ran it on the test track and it runs poorly. At high speed it is ok but kind of lopes along at a lower speed. There is a definite bind in the mechanism. I suspect a cracked gear as there is also a ticking sound. It is an older two motor setup unit. My question is, will Bachmann repair/replace this and will it cost me anything other than shipping it back. Is there an assurance I will get the same undecorated unit back?
