May not be the locomotive could also be an issue with the controller

I am working in HO scale.  I've thought about doing N, just because it would give me so much space for buildings, scenery, etc.  But isn't N scale structures and rolling stock quite a bit more expensive?

And thanks for the input.  I am now considering just doing a point to point layout.  I honestly don't care a great deal about how the train runs.  I get more enjoyment out of building and decorating the structures and working on the scenery.
you could lay down some flex track for your curves but you have to be sure the locks you intend on running will handle tight curves.

I've been looking into doing a reverse loop. I have easy track on my layout. All the videos I've seen on YouTube indicate that I need to isolate the loop. Some of them show plastic inserts to use as rail joiners. I don't know if that could work with EZ rack. Does anyone have experience doing a reverse loop with EZ track?
I posted this a while back, this works with any size ez track,
1.get close cut nippers
2.place flat side agaist end of rail.
3.squeeze until joiner collapses
4.twist toward/against rail (like a fulcrum )
5. Remove joiner

Check to make sure the flanges are the same width as your other rolling stock.

It could also be a wight issue if it's too light.

It easy to make that rear light work, and only come on in reverse.

I do it using a led and a 680ohm resistor

I read above that power was checked near the smoke unit.

I Thought I should point out that not all digital meters will read voltage correctly or at all at times with dcc, I discovered this a while back, somewhere on the forum the Late Great Jim Banner discused the reason.

Clean rooms in aerospace make sure they maintain positive pressure in the room at all times you can do this with your ac an  hepa filters, or by rigging hepa filters on a sealed window fan.

General Discussion / Allied Model Trains (Closed)
August 04, 2015, 10:45:13 PM
 Its a sad day.

I've been busy with other things so I havent been by the train shop in a couple months, I found out today after 69 years in business Allied Model trains has closed its doors for good.

I bought from them as much as possible because I liked supporting people
In my hobby unfortunatly its had for a Brick & mortar shop to stay in business anymore.

Mickeykelly,

Im sure tbe one your talking about was 4014 which sat at the Los Angeles county fair grounds in Pamona Ca.

They just moved it to the steam shop. It was towed there, the rebuilding they did in Pamona on site before th  move was to get it track worthy by servicing the bearings and brake system.

I have pictures of my kids in the cab, the fire box on that thing is as large as the inside of a 16 seat passenger van.

Pumkin,
Here is a photo I took of the side rod on Bigboy 4014 when they were getting ready
To move it to the shop for restoration.  That is a standard five gallon bucket for ref.

They are currently rebuilding it to bring it back to life, it will be running again.

N / Re: train bridges
July 06, 2015, 10:20:58 PM
I have used kato n scale bridges, i just paint and weather them.

On a couple small layouts I have pulled out the stock 80 rail and slid code 55 in.

If your going to use it with ez track just  modify a peice of track so you can slide it into rail joiners on the bridge. You could aquire a couple extra kato joiner to make it easier, they also make a transition track to use with atlas and others.

Thanks for the replies.

I have used a lot of l.e.d. for train related items, my main concern is whether the cheap $5 electrical components stood up to the vibrations cheap electronics dont usually like it much.

I have roughed up leds to scatter more light with ok results, what I found also helps is use a 1/4 drill to create a inward cone shape on the front of the led.

I've been thinking of leds for my Christmas layout it the yard.

I'm not too worried about making it perfect proto type sense I have painted them and applied christmas, I'm thinking of buy some cheap solar walkway lights and installing the solar panel on the roof.

Anybody else try this?
