Thanks for the back ground. It would really be nice if Bachman included a little bit of history like Proto does about their loco's. Like I said before I loved the detail. Looks like a quality loco. ;D

Thank you for your reply. I know that I can change this by changing the CV values. No problem. It just seems that the start voltage seems to be higher with DCC than DC.  This has not happened with any of the other conversions that I have done so far. Just thinking that maybe someone else ran into the same issue.

Just converted my 2-6-6-2 to DCC with a Digitrax DH163PS decoder. The engin runs smoothly as before but the initial start voltage seems rather high. Thought it might be the decoder so I tried it in a different loco as a test. First click and the loco begins to move. It almost seems that the 2-6-6-2 ran better on DC than DCC. Any thoughts? :-\

I saw one at my local hobby shop. The detail was very impressive. It is also a very large loco. It dwarfs my 2-6-6-2.

The Proto 2000 S1's and GP7's are DCC ready loco's

My first choice was lenz because they were first and the quality seemed to be of a higher standard. After checking around the Digitrax systems are the most popular and offered the most support. Also the local hobby shop where I buy support Digitrax. They have a in house expert which is great when you need advice. So the choice became a no brainer. ::) Then the is the question of expandibility and ease of operation. Look and feel. The system I have is Digitrax Super Chief. The only nit I have about it is the buttons on my throttle stick every once in a while.

According to the instructions supplied with the loco it is a simple plug and play swap. Seems I read some where this is not the case. Wish I could remember. According to the author there is a potential of destroying the decoder if installed as per instructions. If the trucks come in contact with the chassis it will cause a short.  Any body have an experiance with this issue.  ::)

Thank you for the info. It doesn't show any of that with the instructions.  Any decoder preferance? Sound of course. Thank you again for your help.

Does anyone know if this steam locomotive is DCC ready? How much of a pain is it to install a decoder?
