....and what is the best way for removing the letting on Bachmann's engines.

You might look here and see if this method would work on engines:

Large / Re: "Gandy Dancer" handcar wheels

Ray,

Odd, I purchased a set of wheels for the Bachmann G gauge handcar and they came assembled (as far as the axles were concerned.

Part number was G96212 and was around $20 if I remember right.

See this page for a picture of the assembly.

http://tjstrains.com/620/repairing-the-bachmann-hand-car/

About half way down the page is the picture. I was replacing the gears of which two had cracked and the only way to get new gears was to purchase the entire sub assembly.

Tac,

Thank you. I was always finding great stuff on the Web then never being able to find it again when I needed it. So I build a Web site for myself where I post all these links and pages.

I've tried to pull together all the Bachmann support links and have them posted here:

You find the stuff for the 2 truck Shay here.

Large / Bachmann G Large Scale hand car with trailer
January 03, 2011, 03:57:29 PM
All,

I just sent the email below to the Bachmann Parts department. However, I've been told that email is not the best method to communicate with Bachmann so I thought I ask if any of you know how to acquire replacement gears for the Large Scale handcar.

Those listed in the parts catalog do not appear to be the gears on the axles, and I have two broken gears. One on the front axle driving the animation (the car handles) and one on the rear that meshes with the worm gear. Power is only coming to the front axle and he barely drives the car.

Any help is appreciated.

Best,
TJ

==========================

Parts,

Have a recent Bachmann G Large Scale hand car with trailer.

Two gears have broken on the hand car.

One gear is on the front axle that drives the animation (the hand car handles going up and down). It is cracked and the handles no longer move.

One gear is on the rear axle and supplies power from the worm gear on the drive motor.

I see on the parts page there are three items related to the hand car.

Gears [Handcar & Trailer] - (Large Scale) #G96210 $10 - shows the two large main gears, neither of which are what I want. I do not see in the catalog picture any of the axle mounted gears, which are what I need.

Wheels w/axle [Handcar & Trailer] - (Large Scale) #G96223 - in the catalog picture only the axle is shown, not the gears that slide onto the axle.

Gearbox w/Motor [Handcar & Trailer] - (Large Scale) #G96211 - again, in the catalog picture no axle gears are shown.

Are the gears I need included with any of the three products listed above? If so which? If not, how can I get a complete set of replacement gears for the handcar short of purchasing an entirely new handcar?

Please advise.

Best regards,
TJ Lee

Large / Re: Bachmann Climax (original issue) exploded view

JD,

Thanks. Turns out I had to remove a bar that extended across the back of the tender area before I could tilt the tender up high enough to disengage the tabs.

Large / Bachmann Climax (original issue) exploded view

I'm looking for an exploded view if the original Climax so I can figure out how to remove the tender shell. I know to remove the two screws from under the water valves but the tender won't tilt up from the front enough to unhitch the back brackets and I don't want to force anything.

Any help most appreciated!

There are a number of maintenance videos for Bachmann trains on YouTube:

I'm trying to get a definitive list. Does anyone know of these are all listed somewhere?

Kevin,

Saw this from over at MyLargeScale. I'm very interested in the Climax 1.20 reissue. Any thoughts on the DCC sound quality?

I'd like to vote for a re-release of the Climax engine. I'd really like to add one to my railroad.

If you are thinking of having someone do the work for you then, if it were me, I'd immediately contact Dave Goodson, [email protected], and have him do the work. You'll get top quality, and customer service that cannot be beat.

A,

Check out this thread on MLS for a very cool looking replacement for the siphon hose:

http://www.mylargescale.com/Community/ForumArchives/tabid/100/Default.aspx?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=28447

See the post with pics by Richard Schmitt:

"The siphon hose was made using a fabric cord from a fabric store. I then inserted a length of solder into the middle of the fabric cord so the fabric could be bent over the hooks on the locomotive and stay to that shape."

Really looks great.

Best,
TJ
