Wow, It happens here in the model train world also, I have been into many different activities in my life, paintball, Rock Crawling, RC planes, cars helicopters, all of which brought me in contact with new people, most just enjoy the activities and enjoy sharing ideas and the fun of being in a group of people with the same enthusiasm for the hobby , but with all of them come what I like to call "spoilers" they are the ones that nitpick about the little things, they are the ones that can not just enjoy the Hobby for what it is, these people SUCK to put it bluntly. I have been into trains of all scales for years, I have built many layouts for friends and family but it was a solo hobby for me, I have no friends that enjoy trains as much as I do and so when I noticed this forum I thought it would be a great place to exchange MODEL TRAIN idea's but I see the spoilers are here and are Really really picky about things that do not really matter, Maybe there are functional illiterates that come here but are afraid to post or join in because of the spoilers and this is sad to me, as another poster mentioned, as long as you understand the post who cares if  a word is misspelled.  fortunately I can just stop clicking the Link to here and be done with the spoilers.

Hey don't forget to test the radius with the cars you are planing to use, I got great advice here to do that and it saved me a huge headache. truck mounted couplers caused no problems with the min curve test but body mounted caused some derails

I clean the area very well with alcohol then I dip a very fine point paint bush in green lock tight and dab it on the axle, the green is the lock tight for after assembly it gets and then dries and has stop a similar problem I had with a different loco

Thanks Jim, That helps I now will look for the 0-4-0 newer version as my first choice sense I really like that little loco I hope I caan find one the I had thought they were still made because I saw them on the products listing

Thanks all, armed with the info provided I am going to the big train show in Ontario Ca. in the morning I am going to try and find a 0-4-2 due to the better running mentioned, if that is not available I am going to look at the little diesel, I am more of a steam fan but this layout is going to be to entertain the little ones in the family so I am sure the diesel would  work good as well.

Thanks again, I have not purchased a loco yet... I wanted to avoid my usual system of buy first test later, frown at results, change plans, rebuild, works but not what I envisioned style of layout building.

Thanks Jester, The layout I want to build will be a little cartoonish, it will have a lot of curves and tunnels the little loco will pop in and out of the tunnels like a rabbit in and out of holes, some times referd to as a "Rabbit" layout. the photos listed below show some examples

Hey is Bachmann going to set up a booth at the Big Train show?

Hi, I am finally going to get into On30  I'm going to build a small 32 inch by 48 inch layout, not stuck to that size but I have a nice discarded table top just dying to have a layout built on it, any way I want to do a sort of "rabbit style" layout in a sort of cartoonish" mining theme, I really like the little 0-4-0 porter and the 3 car set of side dump cars, the amount of track I lay depends on the minimum radius I can run it smoothly at with these cars and the max grade with out wheel spin I plan on running this train as slow as it will run smoothly. any info from folks who have these same loco's and cars would be really great.

What does this mean? do they get brighter? flicker? I don't notice any change on my 2-6-0 Spectrum I only pull two or three cars at a time does this make a difference.
