Are these sound modules announced with the EM-1 announcement specific to the EM-1 or are they just the Bachmann heavy steam Tsunami boards that would fit in any Bachmann DCC On-board locomotive like the 2-10-2?

I don't remember off the top of my head but I think they just slip off.  I don't remember there being any screw to remove but either way, it is really easy to remove the shell.  Sometimes I will go back in and reconnect the lights just for the heck of it.

I have two these that I run on DCC.  The only issue is that both lights stay on all the time while on a DCC powered track.  I simply removed the shells and disconnected the lights.  There is nothing else electrical inside the tenders.

I have sent the decoder back to MRC to have it checked out under warranty.  Have not heard anything back yet.  I did cut the capacitiors but it did not help with the MRC drcoder.  The Locomotive ran pretty well with a Digitrax motor decoder, so i am thinking it must be an issue with the MRC decoder.  I wish I had spent the extra money and bought a micro Tsunami.

Now I need some tips on how to program it.  Ran really good on a Digitrax motor decoder but the MRC 1639 runs like crap.  All of my experience is with Tsunami decoders.  Doesn't look like there is much if any technical help on the MRC webpage.  Any suggestions on what to change (CV's) to smooth it out.  I am using a Digitrax Zephyr.

Thanks

It is in a Bachmann, if that makes a difference.

It was the 20mm speaker which caused it to sound so weak.  I replaced the small speaker with a larger one I had lying around and installed the speaker.  Now I'm trying to program it because it runs like crap.  I had it running before on a Digitrax motor decoder and it ran pretty smooth.

Thanks for the replys.

I am installing my first MRC 1639 decoder and I was wondering if you leave the cap on the speaker?

Thanks,

I have a Digitrax Zephyr on a dogbone double track layout.  It works just fine and I have found that the manuals that came with it have very good, easy to understand information.

HO / Need help with 4-8-2 part
July 14, 2008, 10:32:38 PM
I have a Bachmann 4-8-2 which is missing the fireman's side window insert.  It is just glued in and has fallen out a couple of times and I finally lost it.  The Bachmann service department will not sell them individually because they say they only sell them as part of the entire cab.  If someone has a 4-8-2 for parts that would be willing to sell me the fireman's side window insert I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Thanks for the suggestions.  I don't have a huge layout, so pulling large numbers of freight cars is not a concern.  I usually go with about 14-15 cars on a long train.  I decided to go with the Bachmann because I liked the looks of the locomotive better than I did the IHC.

Thanks,

Thanks for the info.  I have used some Tsunami decoders in Proto 2000 steamers with the 9 pin to 8 pin harness.  I haven't bought the locomotive yet but I doubt that I would have a use for the Bachmann decoder.  I can't decide between the Bachmann or IHC model.  Both models got good reviews from Model Railroader mag.  Any suggestions?

Thanks again,

HO / 2-10-2 decoder replacement
July 12, 2008, 02:53:47 PM
I want to buy a 2-10-2 DCC onboard locomotive but would like to replace the factory decoder with a Tsunami sound decoder.  What is involved in replacing the factory decoder?  Is it as simple as unplugging the factory decoder and plugging in the replacement?  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
