HO / 2-6-6-2 with vandy tender and DCC/sound
December 12, 2020, 01:26:24 PM
I am replacing the orange 4 pin connector plug between the decoder and the engine. Several of the existing wires have broken off so I don't know the order to attach the wires to the decoder. I attached the wires in line from the decoder to the pins and only get movement forward and reverse, no lights or sound. I reversed the wiring order and get nothing. Does anyone or Mr. Bachmann know the correct attachment of these wires ?
by the way I'm using the white universal replacement plug since the orange ones are not available But I don't think that should make any difference.
Thanks in advance for for any help.  John West

Mr Bachmann, Will the TCS WOW decoders have a full range of sounds or will they be limited like the Sound Value decoders?
Thanks, John West

I think some of the early 2 and 4 function  Bachmann decoders only had capacity for 1 or 2 digit addresses. John West

There is only 1 loco doing this. The S2, Bachmann sound value 128 steps. I have 2 other sound value steam locos no issues along with 18 or so other brands.

Using digitrax system with a Sprog interface for a JMRI programer.
If I assign a single digit address of 1 through 9 loco will start to move at speed step 1. Any 2 digit address will delay start movement until speed step 12. The speed at step 12 is not as fast as step 12 with a single address but equal to step 4 using single digit address. I've done a comparison of all the CVs of both addresses and nothing other than the address has changed.
The easy fix would be to assign a single digit address. I have 20 other locos all with 2 digit addresses so it will be confusing to have one engine with a single digit address.
Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, how did you resolve it?
Thanks, John West

HO / Re: Spectrum GP30 noise
December 27, 2017, 02:02:37 PM
I didn't have a spectrum but I had two Bachmann Plus GP 30's that made noise. I never found the source.
12/28/17  I was wrong. I did have Spectrum. I hope grease helps. I tried grease, replaced drive linkage, nothing helped. Finally sold them. These had very nice detailed shells.

HO / Re: A new layout for the new house!
December 03, 2017, 11:04:51 AM
I was in the same situation a few years ago. I had a 4X8 layout with 18" radius. I moved to house with abasement and kept expanding the layout in the basement using 18" and 22" radius. I have gotten larger steam engines and passenger cars that either won't negotiate or look terrible going through the curves.
I am finally biting the bullet and am going to tear every thing down and start completely over with larger curves. I wish I had did this before investing a lot of time and money trying to stay with what was existing.
Don't take offence and this is just a suggestion, but you might want to think about completely redoing your track work now rather than latter since you have the space.

HO / Re: Seeking These Features in an HO Steam Loco

I agree with Joe. I have had several steam  engines over the years that smoked. None of them looked real even one with smoke synchronized with the chuff sounds. All of them maked a mess on the engine and the layout. I recently purchased a new loco that has synchronized smoke and have never turned the smoke option on. Waste of money.

Atlas also makes a 12 1/2 degree crossover.

Jonathan, I've used sprog for about 5 years. Program your EM-1 or other non sound value decoders that have all their CV's will really make you appreciate this. Also creating a complete roster makes programing a breeze for any little changes you want to do to any loco. -John West

This appears to be a EMD F7A unit. Like ACY said. cost would be at least $100 and difficult to install. You can buy a Bachmann DCC, sound value for the same amount. If you want to keep the Patriots paint the shells my be inter-changeable. Someone else may be able to give you more info on this.  -John West

You may have already done these, Check the wheel wipers on loco are making good contact with the wheels. Move wheels side to side that they are still making contact. Check the wipers on the axles of the tender. also check to see if the plugs between loco and tender are tight.
