I bought a GP40 for christmas and had the same problem, took it back to store and got another one, this one isn't as bad but makes noise. I have other bachmann "cheap dcc engines" and have no problems with them so don't tell me I have to buy a "80-90 dollar" engine.

I live in conneaut ohio and there were 4 of them one block from my house. Use to fall asleep with the sound of them working on ore carriers all night long. The record for fastest unloading of a ore boat was made in conneaut, which of course will stand now forever.

I go to my train museum in conneaut ohio a couple times a year but drive by it most every day of the week since there is a NKP 2-8-4 on display there.
