I noticed the drivers have an insulation grommet between the wheel and the shaft. This is a concern since I've never worked with this setup before. Pressing the wheels off and then back on while maintaining the 90 deg alignment and also having the proper snug fit looks like it could be a problem. I wasn't sure if the small plastic grommets would handle all the stress.

pressing wheels off and back onto the axles was my main question though

I would like to know just how easy/hard it is to remove and resemble the wheels to the axles of a Baldwin 2-8-0

I'm going to attempt to turn the drivers down to a code 72 semi-fine scale profile.

It seems to surge with motor revolution. I had it apart to look. There's nothing kanging up. The only thing I can think of is that the belt drive system has very slight fluxuations in the alignment and there's really nothing to do to fix it. It looks like it's just an inherent issue with loose belt drives. If the belt was smooth and had a slight friction fit it would probably run smoother although the starting voltage would be higher.

Hi. I may be too picky but I just received a Bachmann 2-8-0 a few days ago and while running it for back and forth while playing with CVs I noticed it doesn't want to run very smooth at very low speeds. It seems to surge slightly. It's also noticeable at slightly faster speeds also but not as noticeable. You have to look hard to see it. It seems to conform with the rotation of the motor shaft. Like I said, I may be too picky but after reading through some posts here I thought that I may have a small problem.

I managed to force it to smooth out almost totally but had to add "way" more BEMF than I would like to. I have "CV 209, Kp Coefficient" set to 200 to get it to smooth out. This seems a bit severe to me.

Thinking there may be a problem in the belt system, I pulled the running gear and boiler off to see what could be causing this and found nothing out of the ordinary. The belt had slight slack in it and everything seemed to be in order but I'm not too sure I would know what to look for.

Any help would be appreciated.
