Check the counterbalance weights in the kit.  Nice parts to start with to customize your Bachmann Heisler.

Any Surry prototype would be great. The 0-4-2's are different from the ones Bachmann has already produced and the 2-6-2 would be a natural for all kinds of bashes, converting to On3, small power for a common carrier, big power for an industrial.

I read The Compn'y in high school and have a copy. Great read of an interesting railroad.

For those who like to modify their Bachmann equipment, Pete of Backwoods Miniatures has posted some photos on the On30 Conspiracy of his initial efforts for his promised aftermarket kit for this locomotive.

I had planned to only obtain one Heisler, but now might have to obtain two. I like the looks of the BM kit and may have to have a wood burner and an oil burner.

Check this locomotive out. Not everyone's cup of tea I am sure, but those who want a more modern locomotive that can pull some series tonnage on the narrow gauge will like it.

Large industrial diesel similar to #19 on the C&TS or the ex-steel mill locomotives now in use on the Durango & Silverton.

Large enough to serve as short line motive power during the steam/diesel transition era yet small enough to be BIG industrial power.

Would also make the On3 guys happy.

This will be the 2nd arrival of the Heislers.

From what my retailer told me, when the Heisler arrived the first time in the States, after test running a few, the entire shipment was packed up and sent back to China for redesign, or something.

The issues were not with the superstructure or detailing but were drive train related. My guess is gears.  Of course, this is not "officially" from Bachmann but rather word of mouth from my retailer.

But it does make sense. Given Bachmann's issues with quality control with the Chinese plant, management may have said enough is enough - fix this!

If the Heisler has resolved the gear and drive train issues, this would be a step in restoring the faith of customers in the On30 line and Bachmann products.

This will be the lone geared locomotive on my little railroad and will serve as my yard switcher so I hope it run well and be durable.

Handsome brute for a 2 ft. gauge switcher!

I cannot recall the website but I have seen photos of Chinese 0-10-0 locomotives that were wither 2 ft. or 30 inch in gauge.

They were used for switching coal trains I believe. Interesting locomotives in appearance. Would be very easy to Americanize.

In fact, if you have an On30 common carrier it would make a good yard goat if you had a port or big industrial facility, which of course is what the Chinese used these brutes for.

Scroll down to the bottom and you'll find three photos of the Alco 2-6-2Ts in service after the war. Two on preservation railways and one at a construction site in Michigan in 1921.

Given that many of these locomotives had U.S.A. or U.S. Army lettered on the side tanks, an actual accurately produced model would appeal to many for patriotic reasons - it might sell well in a train set or to the collectors.

Good idea about the 100 year anniversary of the WW I conflict.

All of your statements are true except for the Baldwin's coming home to operate in the U.S.

Several went to military camps for training and others went to logging railroads.

I just cannot locate the links for photos of these 4-6-0s in operation in the U.S.

I would have to think some military modelers would want some and it might get a few of them to have a layout with their static displays.

Just a thought. 1/45 might be a good compromise size.
