That's good advice, thanks Fred. In desperation I started poking at the spring pick-ups with a craft knife blade, in between the backs of the wheels and the pick-ups. That actually seemed to make one side of the truck pick up as it should (but not the other). Given this Loco is the older of the two Whitcombs by a year or more, it's the one that ceteris paribus should need cleaning earlier. I'll try your trick and report back. I also have a surviving 0-4-0 gas engine that runs appallingly, so I'll try it on that one too. Greetings and thanks from Melbourne, Oz.
