HO / Re: Proposed Train Layout
January 13, 2025, 10:23:27 PM
I had the same situation with my layout.  I happened to already have a second male/female connector.  I had to cut them both in half and splice the two female ends together.

Adding the weight did the trick.  No more derailments.  Thanks again for all the advice.  BTW, if anyone is interested, the wheel weights I used made it very easy to add the weight.  "CK Auto" Steel Adhesive Wheel Weights.  They come in flat, square 1/4 oz pieces with peel and stick backing.  I added 1 over each truck on the shorter cars and added a third right in the center on the longer cars.  Worked great!

Thanks for all the advice guys!  I'll be adding the weight in the next couple of days.  I'll let you know if it solves the problem.

Thanks for the advice Jeff.  I bought some 1/4 oz steel wheel weights with sticky backs.  Cost more than a few Pennies for sure, but not too terribly expensive.  I don't have the guage you mentioned.  I'll look into getting one.  Funny you mentioned the box cars from the train sets.  It's mostly the cars from the original Bachmann Rail Chief set that was my first purchase that are giving me the most trouble.

I was thinking about adding weight.  But when I push the cars back and forth by hand, im pushing from in front and back, putting no pressure from the top.  I will go ahead and add weight anyway.  Cant hurt.  What do you normally use for weight?  Thanks.

HO / Turnout derailment
December 30, 2024, 02:38:13 PM
Has anyone experienced this problem?  Have a layout using ho nickel-silver ez track with 5 different turnouts.  Only SOME of my rolling stock constantly derails passing over only one of the turnouts.  Locos never derail there.  Some of the rolling stock passes through fine.  When I push the rolling stock that does derail through by hand both forward and backward, they dont derail.  They only derail when they are being pulled by a loco.  Im stumped.

Looks like a nice system.  Thanks for sharing! 👍

Bach man needs to get on his engineering team about it.  Would be a very nice new product rollout in 2026.😉

General Discussion / Automated passenger vehicle system.

I have been model railroading for about a year now with my layout totally Bachmann nickel silver EZ Track.  I have 2 4'x 8' sheets arranged in an L shape.  I have plenty of room for roads.  Ever since I was a kid I thought it would be so cool if you could combine slot cars with a RR layout.  Has Bachmann ever considered designing a system for passenger vehicles running on roads that could connect to the EZ Track system.  To control both with a DCC system would be awesome.

You assume correctly Fred.  My Hobby Lobby has 1/8" and 3/32" thick rolls.  Winner winner chicken dinner.  Thank you sir!

General Discussion / Cork board shortage

Anybody else having trouble getting cork board?  Ive had some on back order at my local hobby shop for 6 months.  Checked around on line and every site is out.

This is such a helpful forum!  I have the same situation with 2 separate ovals in an over/under set up.  I converted one of them to DCC a few months ago with EZ Command plus.  Ive been trying to figure out a good way to connect them with crossovers and turnouts ever since so I could run 2 DCC locos.  But everything I laid out resulted in having to expand the layout by a lot.  Im going to do that eventually anyway, but in the mean time connecting the re-railers works.  I just did it and tested it out.  I couldn't find that Bachmann sold a re-railer to re-railer connector, so I found two old re-railer to power pack connectors, cut them in half and spliced the 2 re-railer ends together.  Its a simple solution that I may not have thought of on my own.  Thanks!

HO / 1970’s era coupler replacement
July 01, 2024, 12:52:43 PM
I have some 1970's era Bachmann HO rolling stock that I'd like to upgrade with modern EZ Mate couplers.  The trucks and couplers are mounted with some sort of "rivet".  There's no screw to dis-assemble.  I could probably force them apart, but I dont wat to damage them so the cars are useless.  Any info on the best way to convert these would be appreciated.

Do all current Bachmann locos and rolling stock come equipped with the EZ Mate magnetic couplers?
