Thanks for your input --at least the 38-2 is now quiet.

Rick it didn't work on the steamer. I tried all different #'s and nothing. I called Soundtrax and spoke to George B and he varified that the cv113 doesn't function on a steamer with SV.

Rick thanks for your help. I did what you said on the 38-2 and it worked. Sound stays off until you activate speed step 1. I also have a SV 4-6-2 and it didn't work on it. The default for CV116 is 92. I tried bringing it also to 7 but the engine will not even move. Tried 39 like the 38-2 but that effected the chuff sync speed. Do you have any suggestions for the 4-6-2?  Thanks, Paul

Thanks Terry I now remember seeing that article. Guess I will have to live with the noise ---can't see spending more for the decoder than I spent for the entire engine. Will have to remember to hit 8 on startup so I can hear the other engines.

HO / sound value cv adjustments

I did a search and could not find an answer. I have a GP38-2 sound value and would like to have the sound stay off on powering up the layout. I know this can be done with Tsunami 2 but was hoping to do this with the SV decoder. Also I see that Soundtrax has replacement decoders for this engine, but the cost is as much as I paid for the GP 38-2. Has anyone tried fitting an Econami decoder in this engine or another Bachmann diesel with good results. This would save some $.

HO / operating session

Can someone explain to me what is the signifcance of facing point and trailing point when moving cars in an operating session. I understand it is referring to the switches, but what does it matter?

First off those are not CV's, but function buttons. What contoller do you now have? A full function cab/controller will allow you to change CV's which are then contolled by the function buttons, not changed by them.

Gee I run Bachmann engines on my layout so I guess being on this site is OK. I actually enjoy installing track and scenery on my layout which I think is what building a RR is all about. I figure if the big boys can do it so can I only in minature.

Hi Everyone, why do you all use fixed track which restricts you to certain dimensions. Flextrack allows you to be creative and conform the track to your needs. Also typically you only end up with joints every 36" inches instead of every 9." The electrical losses are generally greater with fixed track unless you solder each joint. When I install switches I don't solder those joints ,but rather solder thin wire jumpers across the joint around the joiner to provide conductivity. This allows me to be able to remove the switch as needed without a chance of damaging an expensive part. I merely unsolder the jumper and slide the joiner out of the way and lift the switch out. All the work that Terry went through to figure out the means to get parallel tracks would be unnecessary, just bend track as needed.

Hi Grumpy that is a nice looking engine shed ---can you tell me who makes it?

Sorry Klondike, but I don't have a Shay. I was only making a general comment regarding the complexity of making a change with Digitrax.  Have you called Bachmann for their advice or to see if there is something wrong with the engine and if it is still under waranty. You also might try George at Soundtrax he is quite an expert. I say this because I believe Soundtrax supplied the decoders to Bachmann. Good luck.  Paul
