I agree with Terry. Even thought a farmer, not a sports fan, but did play sports in school, my father respected my interested. My interest probably came from the house being about 75 yards from the Erie's mainline.

A friend was not so lucky. Aside from the around the tree set, he never received another RR item. He did get sports-balls, golf clubs, even a hunting rifle.

My loco is programmed as #5 on EZ Command. Would I be able to use it as #5 on another system?

If is is there a list of addresses that correspond to the buttons on EZ Command?

NCE shuts down the main while the programming track is in use. If I arrive during an operating session I am out of luck of being able to run my engines. If I knew the button addresses I could just use that address if it is not already assigned to another engine.

People see trains as a toy, and children play with trains. Sadly they do not see the "behind the scenes". I have told critics, "My models are made from matchsticks, plastic containers, wire, etc.

When a nit-picker or, rivet counter points out a flaw, I ask if they are an authority on the Pepacton, Ouleout, and Otsego (my roadname). That usually shuts them up.

When I am criticized for 'playing with trains', I reply its better than video gamers staring at the boob tube or binge watching TV movies/shows.

I use an EZ Command system. When I visit another layout, I need to encode a new address for the loco.  Could I just use the EZ command address, say #5, on the other system. Most likely NCE.

General Discussion / EZ Command Addresses.

I know Address 3 is universal across NMRA DCC compatible systems.

What about the other EZ Command addresses 1,2, and 4-9? I.e. Will a loco with an EZ Command address of 6 run as 6 on another system as address 6?

I reported earlier that the rail car quit running on an NCE layout, but would run on my EZ Command.

Since then I was out and about and saw a hobby store I hadn't seen before. the store was 50/50 3 rail and R/C with a dash of rocketry and models thrown in.

On the end of a aisle was a set of bargain shelves. On the shelf was used NCE Power Cab with a bargain price of $50. I asked the clerk if it worked. He had no way of testing it. They only sold O-gauge. I also asked about the manual which was not in the box.

He said, "Tell you what, take it as is and I'll sell it to you for $25, no returns."

I plugged the unit in and followed the instructions, the booklet was in the bottom of the box. I set the rail car on the test track and the headlight came on. I opened the throttle and the railcar moved. The address was 3.

I dared change the address using the Program Tack mode and the STD option. I made the short address 3 and the long address 999. They worked. I have not tried it on EZ Command.

BTW the fellow who owns the NCE layout can change addresses and make a consist. Beyond that he is lost.

General Discussion / Re: Don't buy me a train

I know the pain all too well, but then a bright future.

I had a nice Lionel/Marx two oval set up on a ping-pong table.

The next birthday after a visit from my grandmother, I received an HO A-B-B-A diesel set from her.

On the bright side I discovered a local hardware store carried HO year round where the department store only had Lionel during the Christmas shopping season.

General Discussion / DCC Conflict
January 09, 2017, 04:35:03 PM
I installed an new HO 44 ton DCC chassis in a kit bashed rail car of a friend. I ran it on my test track using EZ Command. I did not change the default address. On the owner's NCE powered layout it ran almost a total lap of maybe 60+ feet before failing. I used the default address of 3.

After not being able to get command, I tried to reprogram the engine without success. I get the "Cannot read CV's". I tried several times using different NCE programing routines.Yet when I brought the engine home to my test track, it runs.

Does any one have any ideas as to the cause of this dilemma?

Does the EZ Command system set any parameters even without making changes. Another friend runs Bachmann On30 engines using NCE without a problem. But he starts them out on the NCE system.

I am not knocking NCE, however I have incurred this problem with other brands of engines/decoders that have been tested on my EZ Command system then moved to an NCE layout. Including NCE decoders. All prompt the  "Cannot read CV's" error.
