General Discussion / Turn Outs and DCC
May 16, 2016, 10:31:43 AM
Hi, I am upgrading our layout to DCC. We used 4 Bachmann HO 44561 NS EZ Track Remote Left Hand Switch and 1 right hand in layout to create an inner loop and some spurs. Now with DCC engine it shorts out and derails when it comes out of the inner loop to the turnout to main. Runs around main line just fine. Only shorts and derails on turn outs. What is causing this and how do I fix it?
Thanks in advance
Jack

HO / Wye Switch Connections
September 21, 2015, 11:58:22 AM
I used a Bachmann HO 44569 NS EZ Track #5 Wye Switch in a layout I am working on. All NS EZ track with the grey roadbed on layout so far. The roadbed prevents connection to both of tracks leaving the Wye. Is it as simple as trimming roadbed off of one piece or should I be using something other than regular track?

Thanks to all for the inspiration and advise.
I attached a link to PhotoBucket (hope it works) with first phase of my build. I went with a 3% incline then another 3% to get to the "mountain" area on right of layout. Then did a single 3% on inner route left side. Hope to get some more work done this weekend with grandson. If anyone sees anything seriously wrong with layout feel free to comment. My loco and 4 rolling stock seem to make it all around just fine.

HO / Bus & Jumper Wires

I am new hobbyist returning after 50 years. A lot has changed. I got a book by David Popp who talks of installing bus wires and jumper wires to track. I see the benefit of pre-wiring to use for switches and scenery but wonder if I need to connect jumper wires to the track as he suggests in addition to my main power feed? I only have about 40 feet of HO track.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

Richard and all, Thanks for the advise. Seems like a great RR community and I am thankful the advise. Much like my Reef Aquarium hobby forum I expect I will be back here often. I am rethinking my plans after hearing the incline advise.
I will set up the photobucket account.

I guess I am a new bee since I have not been active in model rr for over 50 years! Now at 65 I am getting back involved to pass along the fun of the hobby to my 7 yr old grandson. We are building a HO 4 X 8 layout in my garage. Starting off with a Rail Chief set and loco EMD GP40. I was looking at a plan with a 4% incline/decline over 8 feet. I was told this may be too steep for the engine. What would you recommend?
