I was wondering if there are plans of re-doing the Shay locomotives with metal gears like the climax now has?

I have a Bachmann 2-8-0 steam locomotive that originally had a sound decoder installed in it. The previous owner took the sound decoder out. I now have a TCS WOW sound decoder I would like to install in the locomotive however I noticed the locomotive is missing the two wore plug and instead has just two wires hanging out the back of the engine. The board in the tender looks like someone has tried to solider wires too it. Any ideas on installing the decoder? Should I get the plug.

I did reset cv 8 to 8 and still no change.

I tried f8 and still no sound.

Good Evening I was looking for a little help. I somehow managed to change a setting on my 2-8-0 with sound and now everything works but I have no sound. I did the reset codes CV8=8 and cycled the power and when finished engine responded to 3 as the engine number but no sound. Can anyone suggest what else I might need to check.

I have the Ho Scale 3 truck shay. While running my locomotive I noticed it has started having problems pulling cars and runs real jerky when running by itself. Up untill a few days ago i have never had a problem with this locomotive. I am wodering if some saw dust may have gotten into the wheels it was ran on some track during layout construction that was not vaccumed up before this issue started. I have also read about split gears andf wondering if that could be the problem. Can some one tell me how i would Check this also how to take the trucks apart to clean and check for debris in the wheel sets.

I have a spectrum Western Maryland 2-8-0 locomotive and while moving I broke one of the plugs from the tender that plugs into the locomotive. It is the one with two wires. I have the wire and the plug is there a way to fix it?

I just got the MTH unit Sunday and it is a great locomotive. I am not sure I like all the talkingit does but it's cute when children visit the layout.  Here is my question I have 2 of the Bauchman 2-8-4's and would like to instakll sound in them has anyone done that? Also will they run better on DCC if the decoder was changed. From different things I have read the decoders in them are very cheeply made.

Hello I have a spectrum 2-8-0 with sound installed from factory. When I turn on my layout the locomotive begins to make sound without even being addressed is there a way to shut this off so the locomotive only makes sound when addressed through the controller.

I just received a new Spectrum 2-8-0 and I am having a problem with the tender lifting off the track. It appears that the wires from the tender are so stiff that they are lifting the tender. The drawbar does not seem to be going down all the way. I also have a problem with the pilot wheel coming off. I have not checked yet bit I will check the wheel guage is there any other adjustment to the pilot that might help.

I have two 2-8-4 berkshires one lettered for the NKP and the other for the C&O. The problem I am having is the C&O tender squeels when on DCC the NKP model is fine. I swapped tenders just to check and see if the problem goes away and it did. I would like to get the C&O locomotive fixed. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might check before sending back the locomotive.
