thanks james and len and others with constructive tips and possible solutions.

this is a side project that does not get very much time, but I have received much helpful information already and will apply it and test it and report back.

I'm filtering out the bickering  ;)

thanks all for the help I will report back !

wow rough crowed here  ;) sorry I thought since this is a bachmann forum folks on here would be familiar with the Bachmann products

I was referring to a started kit with a steam locomotive ...

I will take all suggestions and examine the track and will report back. I have limited time so it might be a few days.

thanks all for you help and take it easy on me lol !

HO / power supply

I have one train DYNAMIS SOUND COMMANDER- MAINE CEN BAC1403 and added some track and a second loop. so I have a inner loop and outer loop. I could run a second train at the same time.

question is do I need a second power supply or will the existing one work fine with 2 trains?

I'm new to all this ...

thanks!

HO / frequent "derailing"

I have the DYNAMIS SOUND COMMANDER- MAINE CEN BAC1403 and added some more track to make some kind of l-shaped layout.

the train frequently derails "slightly" causing shorts when going slow over turnouts ... when going faster this seems to not be a problem.

but because it's such a small layout altogether going fast doesn't make much sense. but going slow the train stops once or twice each loop because of "short" ... normally can be restarted by just pressing stop ...

what can I do to cause the de-railing? it seems to be mainly the very front "guide wheel?"

thanks!

thanks again everyone for their input! I went with the Dynamis set. I found one on ebay for $290 shipped ...
it sounds like it will do the job for me as it will be years before I out-grow it! if ever it seems ... this is a side project that will grow very slowly ...

I sure will have more questions as I want to grow the system and track... I have an L shaped area of about 8ft x 6ft with 40" width ...

Thanks again!

do I need a second handset? or is there an other set that's good too as this one seems to be discontinued? I don't want to get stuck with something that I can't expand in a few years ...

thank you all ... so it sounds like the "Maine Central - Dynamis® Sound Commander Set" is a good starter and pretty future proof set?

of course sold out  :( some sites say "discontinued" ?

I want to get my son and myself into train stuff ... I did it years ago, but I'm looking for something to start but good enough to keep growing with it.

any suggestions?

Thanks
