HO / New Sound Value old time 4-4-0 locomotives
April 28, 2021, 12:24:24 AM
I see that Bachmann is coming out soon with 2 new old time sound value 4-4-0s and at least one DCC ready.
Pictures I've seen elsewhere look really nice, and I plan on ordering at least one. I like the green one, but want to know exactly what colors it's going to be before I order.
Even better would be one that is UNDECORATED!  Why not make a simple one with Russia iron boiler,  but no lettering?

Thanks,

Soundtraxx has a new Current keeper out that is only 20mm long.  Would that work?

Rich, have you tried it yet,  or had any other thoughts?

HO / retooled 4-4-0 disassembly
May 26, 2018, 06:01:02 PM
I have studied the parts diagrams for the "York," for both the tender and locomotive, but cannot tell how the trucks are attached to the tender or how the smokestack is attached to the boiler.
My "York" seems to be having some issues with pick-up and the wipers seem to be barely touching the axles.
Also, the top of the spark arrester is slightly askew and I wanted to line it up, but don't want to break a $300.00 locomotive. The parts diagram actually shows the cover of the spark arrester being a separate piece, but it did NOT seem to want to move.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dear BachMan,
It's been almost 2 years.  I just purchased my second retooled 4-4-0, and so far am very pleased.
But it would be so much easier for me if I didn't have to remove beautiful painting and lettering just to try to re-do it.  You produced a "modern" Spectrum 4-4-0 in a beautiful painted unlettered version that I love.  Why not do something similar with the old-time 4-4-0?
(Hopefully before I die.)

Thanks for posting that.  But I looked at the list and did not see a setting for momentum.  Is it possible to set momentum with these?

Thanks,

BachMan, what would we have to do to convince Bachmann to release a couple of different painted but unlettered old-time 4-4-0's?
Is it really that difficult to just leave off the numbers and lettering?  You do it with the old-time coaches.  I would love to see the DCC ready and Sound Value locos with the Russia iron boilers and interchangeable stacks and tender loads.  It would make them so much more attractive to many modelers!

It has been well over six months, and still no new images or information on the new "General" or the "York."  Are these ever coming out?  Can  you give us some information as to the colors, type of stack, fuel, etc?

Thanks,

Doug

First, "Maybe undecorated would make a great release with some tender and detail options for this one .Then you can make what you want."

Amen!

Second, I have new "Texas," and while it does not wobble, it does have a definite repetitive gear noise and jerky motion, but only in forward.  As I was running it to break it in this seems to be getting worse, so I am about ready to return it and try a second chance.  Can the Bach Man (or anyone with a similar experience) tell me if lubrication would be helpful?

Thanks!

Bachmann as well as all other manufacturers should have all wheel pick up on all their tender wheels,  rather than one side on the front truck and the other side on the rear truck.  Surely that is just a pennies in cost improvement but makes a major improvement in DCC pick up.

Hint, hint Mr. B.

Cheers

Roger T.

Roger makes a great point, as well as those who suggest journal pickup; everything possible to increase electrical pickup, please!

But one more point, and I encourage others to voice their opinion on this as well:  Please consider releasing an UNLETTERED model, preferably with a Russia iron boiler, for those of us--in fact the majority--that do not model the UP or CP.

Thanks, and I look forward to seeing the new models!
