General Discussion / soldering track joints

i'm looking for opinions on soldering rail joints. at first glance it seems like a good idea for stability and permanence.

         thanks for the help

HO / mrc 1025
October 29, 2011, 02:27:25 PM
has anyone used the mrc 1025 sound system with the bachmann e-z command controller? the function buttons on the mrc don't do anything but the function keys on the controller do produce the sounds. also i can't get to steam mode. i'm thinking the mrc unit is a rip-off.

does the above named module require anything else to perform its function. i.e. power booster or some additional power source. i'm aware of the insulated track requirement but nothing else.  thanks

thanks acy, i have the bachmann ez command dcc controller. my concern is that i'll need an additional power source for the reverse loop. how does the loop get powered? bachmann calls for special insulated track to work the loop and i'm guessing the loop module collects power from the powered rail that precedes the insulated rail. but i've read somewhere that such a loop requires 2 amp power which seems to indicate a need for some sort of booster since the dcc controller is a 1 amp system.

HO / automatic reverse loop

is the bachmann auto reverse module #44912 all that is required or is there a need for an additional power supply for the isolated loop section to accomplish the reversal?    thanks

HO / power pack

what power pack do i use for switch machine control. i'm using the ez-command controler so all i need is ac power to the switches. i will also be installing an auto-reverse loop in the near future so a multi-purpose power source would be ideal.   thanks

HO / Re: engine/tender hookup

robbob thanks for the response. tightened the screw as much as i dare for fear of cracking the plastic. gave the bar a slight bend (1/8) inch and it seems to hook up pretty good. i'll know better  when  my track arrives in the mail.

HO / engine/tender hookup
September 20, 2011, 02:55:27 PM
just received my first locomotive and have a dilemma. how to hook them together. there is a hookup post in the tender and a hookup on the engine which looks like it needs to be bent to receive the tender post.am i right on this? this is the bacchmann northern 4-8-4 #3783.   thanks
