Mark   Thanks for your replies very helpful  I j=have figured it out

Over the last three years I have sent three n scale EM1  locos for repair On each occasion they said they could not repair even though they had the parts
and in my view point were repairable  The warranty program is ok if you are ok with getting another loco , i would rather have my loco repaired . I do not bellive they are capable of dismantling a unit and repairing On the other hand I have sent two challenger N scale to Athearn who did an actual repair

Not a Bachmann fan when it comes to repairing units

Mark    I am sorry to take your time but I am confused   On this unit there is rail pickup only on one side  the red side  that is why I thought I should solder  the new decoder wires to the  solder inlets on the surface of the master board example R,M+,LF-,L+LB-,M-L-

Can anyone tell me how to install a sound decoder

I somehow made the DCC not working  and would like to replace with a small regular decoder   My question is that on this unit there appears to only be electric pickup from on side of the unit  on the right side looking at the front back  Is this the case ,if so how can I wire a standard decoder ?
