HO / reduce sound volume
May 27, 2014, 10:13:09 AM
A lot of the electronic programming stuff confuses me. I recently purchased a Bachmann HO Alco RS-3 with dcc and value sound. The diesel sound is really too loud and according to the instructions, it can be adjusted, but it doesn't say how. The bell and whistle are fine. I know that I can mute all sounds, but really, I just want to lower the volume of the diesel. Any help would be appreciated.

HO / Re: adding lights

Many thanks. You guys are great. I ran a test on the DC side and it seems to work fine. with the additional benefit of acting as a dimmer. I did not know that the bulbs would work on either AC or DC

HO / adding lights
March 02, 2014, 02:20:22 PM
Many thanks for the help I've gotten on this forum. My trains are running well, the turnouts are operating and derailments seem to have gone away.
I use a Bachmann DCC controller to operate the trains, and a Bachmann power pak from a non DCC train set to provide the power for lights and turnouts. I recently added additional lighting and created problems, when operating a turnout the lights would go out, the lights would also go out after remaining on for several minutes, turning the power pak off then on would work as a reset. I gradually disconnected one light at a time till things worked right. It seems that there is a limit as to how much you can draw from the power pak. I would like to add additional working accessories and lights, what would I use to power them and where would I get it.
Thanks again,
Don

HO / TRUCKS AND POWER SOURCE
February 09, 2014, 02:46:09 PM
I purchased some new Bachmann, very inexpensive box cars, they have plastic wheels which seem to have excessive side to side motion. Some of them derail when going over a switch. I assume I should replace the trucks with better ones, but which ones and what size? the trucks are secured with a single screw.

My eight switches are powered by a Bachmann non DCC transformer, I would like to add lighting and other electrical accessories, is that transformer powerful enough for the load. It does not operate any engines as that is done using the DCC transformer. If necessary, what should I replace the transformer with

HO / Turnout direction switches
January 16, 2014, 06:02:15 PM
I recently purchased Bachmann remote crossovers and remote turnouts. The crossovers came with large solid felling direction switches, the turnouts came with flimsy direction switches. the green wire connectors do not connect very well, they fall out of the flimsy direction switch connectors. Is it possible to purchase replacement large direction  switches, how do I find part numbers. I hope my terminology is correct and you can understand what I am referring to. thanks for your help

HO / dead spot and connectors
January 14, 2014, 12:03:33 AM
I have two issues, the first is with my 4-6-0 engine, it stops every time it goes over a particular turnout. A little push restores power, it does not happen on any other turnout The turnout must be OK as my other diesel engine passes over it with no problem, at any speed, the headlight doesn't even blink. I filed a bit off the bottom bump as suggested in other messages, everything looks shiny but nothing helped. Could there be a dead spot that affects one engine and not the other.
The next thing relates to the connectors for the turnouts, they do not solidly connect, the connectors going into the switch controls will fall out by themselves and the connections to the turnouts seem very flimsy. I have to constantly check and adjust connections for turnouts and power supply.
Thanks for your help

HO / sound levels
December 23, 2013, 06:06:49 PM
My new 4-6-0 Spectrum has sound which works ok. All I want to do is increase the volume a bit. Reading the DVD that came with the unit is more than I can handle, It seems that you need to be a computer programmer to make changes. Isn't there a simple control you can just turn.

Merry Christmas to all

I'm new to the forum and HO railroading so I apologize  for not giving enough info. I would like to thank you. though, for the quick reply.
The set I purchased was the DLx HO.  BAC 00501. It has the ez command control system and two engines. a Santa Fe GP 40 and an FT=A diesel. Both run, but without lights, and the FT-A is very noisy, a grinding sound, sort of like a continuous horn Hope you can help.
Should I disconnect the EZ Commander when not in use even for a short time, there is no on/off switch
