Aah,
Good point, Bill. I did not end up with the lights being operable. In the future, I hope to get the marker lights and some kind of interior light working.
Incidentally, my current layout is 16'-8" long by 3'2" wide, hence the 16" radius curves so I can have continuous running.

All,
Regarding the vehicle situation, I just use the old Hubley kits, which I think were repackaged later under the Revell brand. These often show up at train shows and on auction sites.
They were 1/20 scale, easy to assemble, metal kits of cars from the 1920's and 30's.

Loco Bill,
Thanks a bunch for taking time to post pix for me.
1. The locomotive.
I have always liked Bachmann's 45 ton diesel, however I also like the MTH Proto 2 sound systems in      their 1/32 scale loco's.
Therefore, I removed the body from a MTH VO1000 diesel switcher, constructed a new platform out of wood and styrene, and then added the Bachmann 45 ton cab, interior and hood units. The railings are from Plastruct.
2.  Freight cars.
I also am impressed with Bachmann's 18'-0" long On30 cars.
I took two Bachmann Spectrum box cars and a Spectrum caboose and cut out a scale 12', joined them back together, and now have 18' 1/20.3 cars.
Incidently, the 3 freight cars, with supplied Bachmann trucks and body mounted couplers, all operate fine on my 16" radius indoor layout. The loco also works perfectly on the same tight radius. with the supplied truck mounted couplers.
Thanks again, Bill.

Loco Bill,
I still can't get photobucket to work.  Some months ago I emailed you pix of my shortened Spectrum caboose and shortened (to 18) Spectrum box cars. I will email again if you can post them here.

Rusty,
I took the same caboose and shortened it to make it 18'-0" and it works fine on my really tight 16" radius curves. Email me and I will send you some pix.
Also, before I shortened the caboose, I removed the supplied trucks and body mounted couplers and replaced them with Bachmann's standard trucks with the truck mounted couplers and this also worked on the 16" radius track.

Same thing in G scale.  They stopped making them, but fortunately I have 4 of them.

Sedfred,
go to Google and type in "John Allen's timesaver" for a superb small switching layout.

For what it's worth.
First run, 36 ton shays, are numbered 81xxx.
Second run, 38 ton shays, are numbered 82xxx.

I always thought the correct terminology was a "goes two ways thingy"   :)

Thank you Hunt and Bill,
This is what the technician from Microsoft told me.  Photobucket ii's not compatible with my Microsoft tablet computer with the Surface RT operating system.

Thursday I ordered some large scale parts from Bachmann (big box) and they arrived already!  Two days from Philadelphia to Tampa!
Thank you!
