Take your photos outdoors or without the flash, for better pics.

General Discussion / Two new custom-painted locos of mine
December 12, 2008, 09:31:35 PM
Hey guys,
I've been gone from the forum for a while. I decided to show you some of what I've been doing in that time:

Texas & Pacific GP9 #1132

As you can see, it's not perfect, but it's good enough for me.

I'm also working on an older Bachmann trolley, painted for the 'Emhurst Transit Authority'.

I still need to finish the interior and paint the sideframes of the trolley.

Tell me what you think,
-Paul

Any word on the reverse loop?

Is it a reverse loop (loop that causes the train to switch direction)? If so, you'll have to do some complex wiring to change that.

Can you show us the track plan of your layout?

Yeah, the new Standards are a lot better than the old ones. Even some of the old Spectrum locos (ie, 44 tonner, H16-44....) have been downgraded to Standard status, even with new mechanisms.

Yet another reason I don't use DCC. ;-) BTW, how big is your layout? 5 amps is probably enough, but you never know...

There are many runs of the same product, and yours must be an earlier 0-6-0T. One nice thing about Bachmann is that they seem to continually update the mechanisms of their products to be up-to-date

Your locomotive shouldn't need maintenance for the first year or so, and after that lube it a little. I'm sure others will tell you exactly what to do, but if you're not sure exactly what to do, it's much better to give it to your LHS (local hobby shop), which should be able to tell you exactly what to do, or even better yet, actually do it for you.

I've got a video on Youtube of Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad shay #15. It may help you to determine if the locomotive you saw was a shay or not. (It sounds like it is)

Here's the video:

If you have photos of the model, you can email them to me at texas-pacific@sbcglobal.net and I'll be happy to upload them to a photo hosting site for viewing on the board.

Amazing photo. Thanks for sharing. It looks like the "modeler" applied heat to add dents and left the heat gun on a little too long....

Bachmann EZ- Track would work well, and probably be your best bet. For simpler track configurations, either a 18" Radius circle, or a 22" radius circle would work for your space.

The Union Pacific Troutdale, Oregon depot/museum seems like it will be helped.
