LOL - ya, I thought it was appropriate for me.  Besides being a fan of his, his tag line fits me perfectly - "I know nuthing."

A basic ohm meter between the rails should tell me if I did it right or it needs to be flipped.

It feels really great to think I might have contributed something to this forum so soon.

Oh, so cool!  Thanks Jeff.
I wonder why no one's done it in any books or magazines I've read so far.
Man, anything to not have to get under the table -  ;D

Thanks Jeff -
Sorry I don't know how to add drawings here, but I'll try to describe it.
It's like your top drawing, but -

From the power supply, the wire goes straight to the track, as you have shown.
Assuming the term/re-railer is there, plug in on the near side to the power supply, then plug in the other side to the straight term/re-railer right next to it. (not all the way across the layout).

Also thought it might be possible to just keep going in series to a few more if needed.  I bought a bunch of EZ Track on ebay and now have 7 terminal/re-railers.  LOL - Being fat, lazy and handicapped, I'm not looking forward to the wiring aspect, and just wanted an easy way out.

General Discussion / Wiring Short Cut?
February 13, 2012, 08:28:44 PM
I keep reading to run a buss wire under the layout to get power to more than one location.  The general consensus seems, that way the trains will run better than with just one connection for power.

My layout is to be a modified "dog-bone" style, so the middle of the front track and middle of the back section of track will be close and parallel.

I notice on the EZ-Track straight terminal/re-railer that there is a plug on each side.  I assume that's to plug in the power supply on either side.  If that's the case, I assume the wiring inside that piece of track is wired straight through.

Here's my question - Can I just put a terminal/re-railer beside each other and just run a jumper wire between the two tracks to achieve the above effect?

I plan on using an NCE Power Cab for the power supply.

This seems too easy and logical to me, but I've never seen it done.  Can anyone give my some pros and/or cons for this?

Thanks     ??? ???

Thanks guys -
That really helped.

Now, after that print out, plus the video link, I am flush with a depth of knowledge on magnets for uncoupling that I could only imagine just a short while ago.   ::)

(wound up spending over an hour surfing from vid to vid - thanks Jerry)

HO / Track Magnets?
February 10, 2012, 09:18:56 PM
Hey Gang -
After some of the discussions here, I ask this with trepidation, but here goes -

I purchased a bunch of EZ Track on ebay.  The track shipment included a rectangular magnet, approximately a couple of inches long, in a cellophane bag.  What is this for?  How is it used? And, where/how is it mounted or placed?

"pops
You have received great answers. I can't think of anything to add except Have Fun."

Yes, I have - and I thank all who have helped very much.

This is a place I go to for help.  For those that can't be bothered repeating things for beginners - just don't answer. Saying "google has the answer" is not really help.  There are tons of places that have answers, including other forums. I, and others, choose here, and hopefully, as we get a little more knowledgeable, we can give back a bit, and help those less informed than we are. I try to be descriptive enough in the subject line, so those not interested in helping don't have to read my post.

Any who want to know why newbies ask such "stupid" or "repetitive" questions can find the answer to their inquiry in Google.

Why? Why do so many people assume everyone is a rivet counter and wants a prototypical layout?
There is no one way to build a layout, it relaxes me to just have a train running around and around, I have limited space and like on30 so I have to build the tightest curves i can get away with
I have zero interest in switching layouts, I build small layouts that are just continuous circles, theres a trolley running a endless 22" diameter (not radius) circle under my coffee table as I write this.

Also if I see another loco that I like I will ask how tight a radius it will run on to determine if it will run on my layout, this is much better then ordering one online placing it on the track and then watching it derail.

Why? Because it's what I want. ;D

Same here - ditto to all above.  It's my choice also!
My layout is my choice - no excuses or complaints given or expected.  I'm the only one that has to like it.  All I usually ask is someone accept it as my choice.

HO / Re: Mr B. - Reversing Track Question

Thanks for the quick reply.

When you solder wires "between the reversing sections"  is that between each reversing section to each other or between all the reversing sections and the non-reversing sections?

Also what do you solder from and to?

sorry for the basic questions - it's tough to be a newbie.   ::) :-\

HO / Mr B. - Reversing Track Question
January 25, 2012, 01:54:13 PM
Mr. Bach-Man:
I'm interested in the reversing track set, but have a few questions.

1. The set is listed as having some non-reversing straight sections.  Don't you need all reversing track?  To expand the length do you have to use reversing track or can regular EZ track be used?

2.  Can a basic power supply, like the one that comes with the deWitt Clinton set, be used?  Or do you need a special power supply?

3.  I've only seen trolley cars used.  Is a special car needed?  Or can the gandy dancer unit be used?

Thanks  ??? ::) ???
