HO / Steam Turbine S-2
June 18, 2011, 10:26:44 AM
I know I have already posted something about this. I still think the PRR S-2 6-8-6 would be a god locomotive to produce. I know that it was an experimental locomotive and that only 1 was built so don't go there. I have learned that this was a successful model in O gauge and that the brass HO scale models were sellouts in all brands and everyone knows how expensive those are. I think that it would be a very good seller based on that. Besides that, the Williams line already make an O gauge version of it. I have more HO scale than other scales and HO is known as the most popular scale. Also, Bachmann would do a very good job of making it I'm sure and it would more than likely be at an affordable price too. The loco has some advantages like less moving parts. (A.K.A - The coupling rods) I hope to get some input from The Bach-Man. So what do y'all think?

A boxcar behind the loco with a decoder and speaker with baffle would work. You would need all wheel pickup and metal wheels on the boxcar. Another project that would require some experience with DCC installs.
Decoders will no doubt shrink a little more but adequate sound will always be an issue.
The present motor in the tender drive is quite large compared to the can motor I put in mine. Smaller motors are available but cost goes up also.
I would bet on a price tag of over $200.00 if this was ever possible. Right now, the Spectrum Richmond 4-4-0 with Tsunami sound is going for about $275 at Micro Mark. The Richmond loco has much better detail and running characteristics than the tender drive will ever have.

Ive already done something like that! Ive made a video already but cant get it uploaded at the current moment. The thing is I used the MRC sounder for it but I would think that it could be applied to a standard sound decoder. You could just run the wires between the two.

No idea of what issue you have with the video but I use You Tube for uploading videos. I have the free account and it works quite well.

Sorry I should have been more clear. I don't have problems with the internet but with my computer itself. I already have many You Tube vids so its not that.

When it says DCC ready, only the wiring harness is installed to hook-up the DCC unit. NO DCC unit is installed!! :'(

Lee F.

That depends on the type of loco. Bachmanns do not have a wiring harness installed, they have the 8-pin plug and that is all. Usually if a loco is DCC ready and says that it has a 9-pin plug then it means a wiring harness is installed.

Back to the topic, I would suggest the Tsunami but if that is to expensive I would also suggest the shear brilliance MRC sound decoder with the 8-pin NMRA plug.

You do not put the insulated track after the Why. You put an insulated track on both of the legs of the WHY with the contacts on the bottom open. You then take input cable from the auto reverser and connect it to ONE of the insulated tracks connections on the bottom of the track that if facing towards your mainline. Then take the output wire and connect it to the other the connection facing your main WHY.

Mr. Bachmann, I've already met you! If you happen to remember at the World's Greatest Hobby show in Atlanta, you ran the new climax for me! I got a Sound equipped version about a month ago and love it! By the way, you also gave me a locomotive for free a few years back for being the only one to recognize you that day and I was only about 9 or 10 and am now 13. That figures that the 10 year old is probably the only one to watch the instruction videos.

I have a berk and it pulls well, is very beautiful and should be spectrum, and overall is a 10/10 on quality!
By the way, here is a link to my review of the Pere Marquette version. Note I've already installed sound.

You need to realize that Henry is a 4-6-0 so he might have a better chance than Gordon so if the 4-6-0 Annie's can run on 4ft turns than Henry should be able to also. The difference between Henry and Gordon is that Gordon is a    4-6-2 so he might be able to also. Also remember that they will probably be plastic and not metal like the K-27 so Weight may not be as big of a problem as originally thought.

The couplers work well. To uncouple them, you can take a paper clip and unbend it into a "L" shape and put it under the couplers and pul up and apart. Here is a link to my vid of the Diesel minitrains set. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_-uFagEL8Y&feature=channel_video_title
And here is a link to my vid of the steam set at a trainshow I went to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGMeMwfuK24&feature=relmfu
You can take a look at my other vids of Bachmann Engines.

I have a minitrains set along with some roco, and liliput. I like them all. The minitrains run well and have a BRIGHT headlight. I suggest them.

Sorry Yardmaster. The thing is is that this is the only forum account I have and honestly don't want to create another just for that.

HO / Re: 2-8-0 consolidation and 18" radius

The 2-8-0 will pass a 18" radius fine and I am positive that that is the recommended minimmum radius.
