On30 / Log Skidder
May 24, 2012, 02:27:51 AM
Hi guys,

Does anyone have any idea of the prototype 'plumbing' for the Bachmann Log Skidder?

I would like to hook mine up permanently in my mine engine house as a stationary engine, and was wondering where the steam, water, and fuel lines would run to connect to it.

Thank you,

John

QuoteI'm not closely following prototype accuracy

A-Ha!

There is the exact reason why I ditched HO scale and took up On30!! ;D ;D

QuoteHow many cars are you pulling up that 4.5%?
Did you add any weight?
All the porters I own are the Original DC.

Hi Jeff,

Usually, I run two or three 'loaded' Peco slate wagons. They are not very heavy, as the 'load' is cast from 'milky bar' resin. The wagons are from white metal.

Porters are the best!!! :D

Hi there Jeff,

Not trying to take anything away from your previous statement, but I have four Porters, and they all manage the 4.5% grades on my DC layout with ease.

Mind you, they are the Old Generation (Non DCC, non sound) so that may be the difference.

I have no way of knowing how the newer ones will run, as I don't have the funds to outlay on one of them.

On30 / Bachmann Log Skidder?
April 26, 2012, 12:38:00 AM
Hi guys,

I am currently undertaking the build of my first laser-cut timber kit. It is the neat looking Martinsburg Coal Mine from AMB.

I plan for it to have a detailed interior, so I was wondering if anyone could advise whether the Bachmann O scale Log Skidder would fill the bill in the Cable House as the (non-operating) drive unit for the ore bucket cable?

I envisage it being permanently bolted (ie: glued) to the floor, and wish to run the cables up to the lifting chute.

I have not seen one of these things 'in the flesh', but the available depth in my shed is 3¾" actual, and the 'Skidder is listed as about 4"..... :o :o :o

Anyone have any input?

Many thanks.

Hi Frank S,

Well, I'm from Melbourne, and I'de love to see a Tasmanian Garratt too!!

And while we're on the subject of Tasmania, why not a yummy 0-4-0 pannier tank, like the ones running on the West Coast Wilderness Railway abt-rack line?

:D :D :D :D

On30 / Inside Frame 4-4-0 American
February 23, 2012, 06:14:23 PM
Hi guys,

I have just received my Bachmann Inside Frame 4-4-0 American Steam Locomotive, and I must say that I am very impressed!

The first thing that I noticed about it was just how diminutive that it is!  :o

It was only when I got it onto the rails, and saw it sitting between my Forney and one of my Porters that it struck me that it was quite a bit smaller than the Forney, and not much taller than the Porter....

What a gorgeous little THANG!!! (I can't call it "CUTE" can I???) :D :D

It runs really well on my little straight DC layout. Pulls four loaded coal hoppers with ease.

Thank you Bachmann!!!

Well done, for sorting out this problem, solo.

I agree with you that Bachmann would not accept it back, due to your mods. Besides, you wouldn't want to do them all again, would you?

(Yours must be a Friday-afternoon build....) >:(

You should have lots of trouble-free running with your Forney, now. :D
