Williams by Bachmann / Re: Patent's

If you are talking about the Crown Edition by Williams back in the 1990's they used QSI electronics. You can take the sound system out if that's what you want to do but I don't recommend it.

Have you tried your NW-2 engine with another transformer like the old post war ZW or the MTH Z-1000 or even an Atlas 80 watt? Don't give up yet as the CW-80 don't have the best record for success.
Some of the older CW-80's had to wired differently then the way it looks to wire one to the track and accessories.

I have seen the post today as well. Also Mr L. Willis has done a small book on E Z Streets, wiring and track usage.

A little about E Z Streets or Super Streets(the K-Line name for them), you need to know a little about how to install curve to straight tracks. You must use a 2.5 inch straight to curve track between a curve and another straight track because of the openings in the track are wider on curves then on straight and the straight to curve track compensates for that. Also there is a 2.5 inch curve to curve straight track for use between two curves.
When I first started using K-Line Super Streets it was trial and error for me with the curves and straights.

Have you tried to cycle the engine through the forward-neutral-reverse sequence?
Most likely you have DC can motors in the engine so try to use 12 volt power source like a car or motor cycle battery with them. If it works on the 12 volt DC source your circuit board could be bad.

Never run straight track voltage to a can motor! Always use a circuit board or bridge rectifier.

There are two things to do to replace a circuit board, first you can replace the circuit board with a new Williams by Bachmann board or second you can replace the circuit board with a bridge rectifier. With a bridge rectifier you lose direction control unless you add in a double pole double throw switch to reverse the wires to the motor.

Have you cleaned the track as well?
I had a Williams S-2 Pennsy steam engine and tender do the same thing except I had just a basic transformer, no whistle or bell feature, when it happened. My solution was cleaning the track and wheels of the tender.
Do your GG-1's have a tether between the units? If so you may have to clean the wheels on both powered and unpowered engines.

Does your tender have a center rail pick-up? If not you will have to find the input power source to hook up to.
If you do not hook up to or take away any wires to the circuit board it should not affect any operation.

Before I can say anything about the new WBB sound system I would say to go to a hobby store or a person who has the new system in one of their engines and see how it works and what kind of sound it has, then make an informed decision for yourself.
The new system is selling for around $110.00 on the website here by Bachmann.

Plasticville U.S.A. / Re: Turnpike toll booths

The toll booths here on the Florida turnpike are stainless steel or silver looking in color with an air conditioning unit mounted on the roof. Sometimes four to six lanes wide, occasionally 16 lanes at places like; Lantana, Three Lakes, and the main liner(Ft. Lee?) between Three Lakes and I-75.
The supervisor buildings and/or counting room buildings are plain cement block with windows and a roof.
The parking areas differ from location to location on the FL turnpike.

I would go with the lower voltage (12 volts)first and see what it does. Maybe you can find a 9 volt transformer to use, I got a couple of 9 volt transformers from TV amplifiers that were being trashed because of being out of date with new technology.
Also at a lower voltage your light bulbs last longer as well.

I would go with what Joe S. originally stated.
The four pin socket might be for a second set of motors and the the two pin socket could be for a smoke unit.
Not sure if I would use any of those sockets for a back-up light circuit.

I think what the yardmaster is saying; don't use the 44 ton engine with either 16 freight cars or 21 inch passenger cars as it might cause a derailment.

I had a problem using a GP-38 with a 21 inch passenger car at the coupler area, the 21 inch passenger car worked fine when used with an SD-45 diesel.

Another thing that I have done is to use Gargraves switches with 027 track, the switch won't let an engine hit the housing like most 027 switches may do.

What transformer are you using? If the power won't go all the way off you can add in a momentary off switch in series with the hot wire and use it to change directions.
Also look at your engine and see what kind of electronics are inside it. Does it have a circuit board?

Could be a marketing ploy or to get you to buy another toll booth or set to match what you already have if you want a second one.

The booths themselves are plain blue or green, just one color. The roof is either gray or white and again it is one color for the whole roof area.

Williams by Bachmann / Re: QSI Sound and DCC conversion

The K-Line cars with the remote use track power to operate the mechanism once a radio signal is received from the K-Line remote. I don't own any WBB operating cars, but they are probably the same if they use the K-Line system.

Len

Thanks Len. I wasn't sure how the operating K-Line cars worked.

Len,

What I am trying to say about the K-Line, Williams & Bachmann remote controlled operating cars is they won't work with anybody else's remote control system. You can not use them with any command control system unless you change out the receiver circuit board like you do for TMCC or DCS.
It is possible the operating cars will work with DCC unless they use track power, I have not had any WIlliams or Bachmann operating cars so I don't know for sure how they work.

Plasticville U.S.A. / Turnpike toll booths

What color are the Plasticville Turnpike toll booths supposed to be?
Are they green or blue? Is blue the new color?
I have the new E Z Streets set with a blue toll booth, and bought a Plasticville Turnpike set about a year ago with green toll booths, both had sealed plastic bags that the turnpike booths came in.
