General Discussion / guilty! 4 pics
August 15, 2007, 04:59:31 PM
Hello Gentlemen….

I’ve been feeling a little guilty about having the summers “off”… as a teacher and musician, it is very nice to work on something else (trains) and recharge the batteries. The only thing is, I’ve been feeling guilty about having wide open blocks of time to model, takes pics and post, while others do not hog the forums like I’ve been.

Anyways…

Here are some completed summer projects;

D&M Engine Shed

Machine Shop

Mich Alkali Co Elevator

Anyone now when the GV trains how is this fall?

So why not use the mat to form your contours, then use the foam to shake on top for color variations?

An interesting idea, but I don't think the foam would "sit" right on the texture of the matt. Has anyone tried this?

Another WS grass example;

A large 10 dollar shaker of Woodland Scenic foam goes a long way. Get green, fine mixed turf.

You spread down a thin coat of thinned white glue, paint, or even hairspray the shake it on. Looks good (better than felt) and is pretty easy. It's what I use.

A nice coat of it is seen in the foreground here, growing on the little hillocks.

Nice work, Kyle. Impressive, as always. How do the posts on the porch scale out?

Not quite as bad as it looks. If I remember the proto, the posts were painted 2" black pipe.

I had some supports laying around from a Cornerstone kit. Quite heavy, but what you can't see is the cross-section on them is an "L" About what you'd get if you joined a 4x4 to a 4x6 post. I imagine you can tell that I eyeball alot of stuff. If I started measuring, it would be too much like work! :D

I'll post again, with color and up close, when I've worked some more.

ps. Thank's for the kind words and the website. Wondrous stuff!

Hi guys,

I'm about half-way finished with my latest piece. This time I am purposely  gaining inspiration from a real 1:1 structure. That's a first for me.

THE PROTO

FOAMCORE FRAME

SOME SIDING AND DETAIL STARTED

PRIMED

Any ideas on the final color? Thoughts on the sagginhg porch roof?

THANKS.

Happy Fathers Day!

The AC Storage Tanks are done, and here is how they look on the layout.

Renniks

Thanks!

That French freeware you suggested is a vast improvement over ZoomBrowser. All things work together for good!

This project still is not done. Unlike all my previous pieces where I would steam ahead, not resting until finished, I am actually “putzing” on this one. Editing photos is getting fun and I am happy with the AC Storage Tanks so far.

Dick, you are too kind. I’ve got to wonder how you can see links to a site that is defunct?! I check the properties on those images and they clearly say RailImages.

Nice oil tanks, by the way. How'd you make them?

They are cardboard carpet tubes cut down and wrapped with finely corrugated cardboard. The tops are foam. They are coming along and I will post a couple pics here when they are finished.

The AC signage was downloaded off the Internet and printed on a PC printer. I make a lot of signs like that and give them heavy coats of glossy varnish when in place. Signs are one of the few things on my layout that are glossy.

YOU ALL COULD DO ME A FAVOR...

I made these tanks just like some earlier ones I discribed in this thread...

http://forum.atlasrr.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=33614

Do you see the images?

Every time I review the thread all the photos are there. I do not understand this because the RailImages site where the pics resided  closed. I would expect the red X.

Thanks!

Go to http://www.photofiltre.com/       Download their free Photo Filtre V6 and see what you can do with it.

Nice tip! that looks like it's very good freeware. Now how to I get my movies from the camera to the PC?

Thanks again!

Hi all,

A while back my hard drive crashed and I got a lot of good advice here on this forum as to how to restore it. THANKS to that advice, I'm all back up and running except for my Canon Zoombrowser program. I can't find the CD to install it.

I'd like to continue to share my projects like these new chemical storage tanks... but the only software I can come up with is a much older version of Zoombrowser that, as you can see,  leaves images under-exposed.

I guess I'll hafta contact Canon.
