I recently bought a Williams/Samhongsa USRA 2-8-2 for less than $200  ;D

As far as I could tell, it had not been run, or run very little.  I did nothing to it but place it on the track and it runs fine.  It even came with the instructions and tool, spare tires, etc.

At this point I'm not sure if I'll be leaving it as is or modifying it into a Seaboard class Q3 Mike:

I already have the Vanderbilt tender made, so I need to make a new smokebox front and new, longer air cylinders on the side, and a few other things to make it look like a Q3.

Thanks Wyatt!

Overall, I feel some southeastern RR cabeese would be most welcome, think ACL, L&N, SAL, SOU, FEC, A&D, MC (Mississippi Central) and many others.  There's more than a few folks with enough knowledge of what the real RR owned that could lend Bachmann a hand if asked.

I could always use another Seaboard Air Line caboose like this one I built using a MTH CA-1 cab, making new (windowless) ends, and gutters over the side windows:

There are people that model more than just ATSF, NYC, PRR, SP, and UP, so please throw us an offering once in a while.

I don't recall the description of this loco when announced, was this to be a new design, or was it along the lines of the brass (Samhongsa) engine Williams offered back in the 90s?  If more along the lines of the brass offering then maybe the price wasn't so bad after all.

I'd still like to see Bachmann make this engine.  I've been looking for a USRA 2-8-2 for some time now and most are way outside my price range.  I think if they could get the price a bit closer to what the 4-6-0 is going for they'd have a winner.

How bout it Bachmann, give this (and us) another chance!

Can you guys at Bachmann give us a peak at any new sound modules (like in the upcoming GP30)  for steamers (like the new 4-6-0) that may become available?

Thanks,
Bob

3rail,

If the GP30 is anything like the 4-6-0 that recently came out then I'm all set  ;D

What kind of slow-speed performance will these new engines have?  I'm hoping the days of jack-rabbit starts are over.

I've seen the York video, but the diesel rumble was not very loud, at least not as loud as the bell/horn which sounded fine.  Can we get another video?

According to Jack Lynch, the sound modules can be swapped out.  Here's the video (approx 7 minutes in):

The GP30 looks great, I hope they have slow, low, speed.

I watched the video, but really couldn't hear the diesel rumble all that well, the horn and bell sounded fine.

Is there another video that really shows off the engine sounds?

Also, are these engines geared for slower speeds than in the past?

Dear All,
True indeed!
The GP-30s were enthusiastically received, and should be here by year's end.
Another winner by WBB!
We'll have pictures and details up soon!
the Bach-man

When this happens, will you include a video file so everyone can HEAR what the 16-bit sound system?  That might be the biggest feature of all!

Seaboard Air Line also had the GP30 (34 to be exact) while the ACL only had 9.

Will we see a SAL unit as well?
