On the top of the engine is a small rectangular flat "box  lid". Lift it off with your fingernail. The switch is underneath it. Happy railroading- Mike

One of the best HO around the ceiling layouts I've seen had mirrors mounted at 45 degrees from the ceiling/wall joint to allow those below to see things better. It really worked well- Mike

Try checking the wire that is connected to the front truck. Sometimes it gets a nick in the insulation and shorts out.- Mike

Check to see if the front truck (wheel set) has been reversed. If so, it will cause a short. Just turn it around again. Let us know how things work out.- Mike

OTB- I have a bunch of the track. Click on my name above and send me an e-mail if you would like to get some from me (for indoor use only)... or you can get some brass, aluminum, or stainless steel track for outdoor use.- Mike

Try turning the lead truck around. If it was accidentally reversed, it would cause a short.- Mike

HO / Re: Diagnosing problem with older engine and track
November 29, 2008, 08:09:34 AM
The closed circuit comes from the engine as the power flows from the wheels on one side, through the motor and light, then out through the wheels on the other side. The poor running can be coming from dirty track, wheels, contacts to the wheels, etc. If you have older style brass or steel track, the corrosion is basically low conductivity. Corrosion on nickel silver track is more conductive. Try cleaning the electrical conductors with a rag and cleaning solution (search for "cleaning" on this board). Also, be sure the track connectors are tight. Enjoy !- Mike

Can anyone provide a pair of photos showing the difference between the two versions of the "Overland" engine which has come with the "Overland" set? And which is the "more correct" match to the actual UP engine? Thanks- Mike

Can anyone give me a couple of good sources for HO engines? I can only remember Caboose, Factory Direct Trains, and Trainworld, but I know there are lots of other good sources. I sure miss my short term memory!!- Mike

General Discussion / variation in message displays
November 11, 2008, 04:41:49 PM
Why is it that some of the messages (such as the 2-6-6-2 thread in the large scale section) display so wide. I order to read it, I have to scroll right and left for each line? Most of the other messages are just fine. How about it, computer guys?- Mike

October 24, 2008, 12:02:39 AM
Does anyone know of any train shows in the Orlando, FL, area the weekend of Oct 31 - Nov 2... or any rail sites and/or stores worth visiting in the area? I'll be in the area from the 29th thru the 3rd, and I will have some extra time. Thanks in advance for any info.- Mike
