Large / Milwaukee Road Baggage
August 13, 2008, 02:23:09 PM
I recently got the Milwaukee Road Baggage car from the Big Hauler series.  Does anyone know what scale the car is?  From what I have found, the car is about 6" from railhead to car top, which comes out to about 14'4".  14'4" is around what the "standard" car height was.  If this is true, then the car is 1:28 scale.  If the car was 1:22.5, then it would be a 7.5" tall model with a 14'4" tall real car.

Is the car really 1:28 scale, or is it a model of a smaller/freelance car?

My shay, which I received in 2007 brand new from factory, has never had any problems.  Then again it it onboard battery RCS.  If you want to keep your shay, I would think about putting batterys in it.  But, that's just me....

I have one of the early 4-6-0 Big Hauler, from like 1989, and it did the same thing.  I would turn it on and it would just sit there while the motor just spun around.  Upon taking it apart, it was that the plastic axle gear had split in half.  By the sounds of your discription, I think that the axle gear has split.

Here is a easy way to end rumors:  "Don't spread them or pay attention to them".  If you stop paying any attention to them, they die.  If you stop spreading them, well, they die.  I will believe pretty much anything once I see it.  Until then, it is just pointless gossip.

You have to remove the headlight and brackets.  Drill new holes for the brackets and glue into place.  That is not exactly how you do it, but that is the theory behind it.

I would say yes, they will last a long time with proper maintenance.  I have had one for about five years, and I have had zero problems with it.  Pretty much everything will last for decades with proper maintenance.

Large / Re: bachmanns new loco-a diesel
April 12, 2008, 10:22:59 PM
Ummmm......what?  As previously said, Bachmann is narrow gauge and the GE U50 is standard gauge.  I do think a new diesel would be nice, but why this one?

This is even more outlandish than when news came that Bachmann was going to make a K-27!

snoq. pass r.r. only a moron would possibly think that i was refering to anything other than new in the box from an autherized retailer! who in the heck would hold bachmann to blaim!

Actually, there have been many (that I know of) who blam the manufacture for problems when they buy the locomotive from another owner.

Only problem with your suggestions that I see is that whom are they buying the locomotives from.  If it is straight from Bachmann, then I could see agreeing with you.  If it is from a previous owner, then it is not Bachmann's problem.

From what I hear, Berry's Big Trains has new drive gearing for the Consolidation.  You could try them as well.

I second that.  It would be nice to see some Milwaukee Road locomotives.
