On30 / Re: Sawmill figures in O scale

Thanks to you all. Daveb, thanks for the site, I think I'll be getting some stuff through there. I've built the framing for the floor and added a couple of planks to hold it all together and I just completed the husk last night, sanded the blade a bit to thin it some and added NBW castings where appropriate. I'm in the midst of building the steam engine now. Things ae so much easier to build in O scale and the amount of detail you can achieve is great, although, that can be a 2 edged sword.... :)

Thanks again,

HO / Re: 2-10-2 gear noise?
March 07, 2007, 07:05:47 PM
My first 2-10-2 made a clicking noise as well as waddled like a duck. I noticed the drivers were out of quarter and sent it back for a replacement. Bachmann has been having gear issues in some of its other loco's notably, 2-10-0, 2-8-0 and pinion grears on the shays. Check the side rods and valve gear for bent or binding parts. Run the engine REAL slow and watch the drivers if they jump or seem to bind they are out of quarter. The good thing is they test the loco they send you as a replacement before shipping.

I have a couple of 24 inch curves and my 2-10-2 handles them quite well. Although it hates the "s" curves and track joints on our modular club layout

On30 / Sawmill figures in O scale
March 05, 2007, 12:05:38 AM
Hi all,

I was at our annual tain show this weekend and came across a Keystone Danby sawmill in O scale. I model in HO and have built one in that scale, but...couldn't resist the O scale as soon as I opened the box and saw all those metal castings.. I'm planning on setting aside my Sierra West kit and building the mill  for display at the NMRA meet here later this year. I'd like to find some operators for the mill. Could someone point me in the direction of a manufacturer who makes such items?

Many Thanks in advance

Jon,

I've admired your work for years on the Atlas board. It is a pleasant surprise to see you posting here. Welcome.

The new Woodland Scenics pre assembled buildings look really good. they look very well  and neatly built, are pre weathered and are painted in very realistic colours. I've never bought one (not my gig) but have seen them on my LHS shelves.

GG has been around here a lot longer than you AND he is giving you correct answers. Chances are he knows a lot more than you do, so listen to him and others and cut out the snide remarks.

HO / Re: Removing lettering from Bachmann tenders II

I just repainted a 10 wheeler. I actually just used a new #11 blade and CAREFULLY scraped the paint off. I managed to remove the Southern logo and numbers on the tender and loco with only one minute scratch  The paint is very brittle and flakes off quite easily. There was a little paint left around the rivets but it came off easy with a fine brass brush I use for distressing wood. After repaint and new decals CN 1278 is ready to roll.

General Discussion / Re: just curious

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Moved here in 1984. My Dad was with the RCMP so we moved every 3 years, lived in every province west of Quebec and for 3 years in the Yukon. Have been from Alaska to Florida on road trips.

I have work for the last 16 years as a automotive tech speciallising in European cars. My second hobby is old VW's of which I've owned 20 including my current rides a 1967 T3 Squareback and a Manx dunebuggy that I slalom race.

I started MRing again 11 years ago. My layout is my 3rd a rural branchline with a logging extension. I LOVE  craftsman kits from Sheepscott, Sierra West, FSM, Campbell, JV Models, and Keystone and have several on my layout. My rolling stock represents everything from the early 20's to the end of steam.

I have a pair of tweezers with one side of them that is magnitised, great for holding small parts and screws.

I'd have to agreee with Jim that the incopatability with older systems is a drawback with the MRC Systems. I have a 1st generation Prodigy system with 2 throttles that sits in a box.

I stand corrected. Guess I should have looked at my cars in the yard to see they were almost as long as my Rivarossi cars. I guess I was thinking of the express cars.

I had one, worked on it to get it to run smoothly and quietly, never did, so I sold it. Keep watching e-bay, they do turn up. I'd like another one, although I would probably put it on a B-mann 40 ton centre cab chassis.

I have the Prodigy Advance system and really like it. Programing is very simple. It can handle just about all functions, more than I use. It is a very straight forward system in programming and use. The only thing I don't like is that when the system first boots up on restart it picks the last loco used and has the throttle appied.

I've run 23"radius on a 4x8 although some questioned my sanity  :)and it cost me a cab on a Mantua steamer.  :(I think the Sectrum cars scale out at about 60' they might make 18" corners but they'll look awful doing it and everything will have to be PERFECT, track, wheel gauges, car weight, coupler heights, everything will be under "stress" going around such sharp curves.
