General Discussion / Re: PERMANENT TRACK ATTACHMENT
December 17, 2007, 07:19:48 PM
If you look at the track, you can see fine fine holes in the middle of the ties on the track, usually near the end.  You can use fine nails (These are recommended.) to hold the track in place. Or, you could use a tube of adhesive latex caulk to hold the track down. Both are pretty easy to remove at a later date. Though, since you have a 4'x4' board, you may want to consider NOT nailing it down for the time being, and getting you son some 22" radius curves (These will allow him to use some slightly larger engines and cars at some point) for Christmas and nailing/caulking those down Christmas day.

General Discussion / Re: Silver Series
December 17, 2007, 03:47:22 PM
The Silver Series is Bachmann's premium line of rolling stock. (Not including Spectrum Acela and Heavyweight Passenger cars) Which IIRC is the only line rolling stock is offered in. (Again, not including Spectrum Acela and Heavyweight Passenger cars)

HO / Re: Auto reversinloop
December 17, 2007, 03:44:19 PM
Yes, it will. The reversing module is made to swap the voltage on a reversing section according to the engine(s)' direction of travel, and prevent a short.

Just follow the setup instructions and you will be on your way! ;D

HO / Re: acela hpp-8 and acela cars....
December 07, 2007, 08:42:09 PM
Well, the thing is, in the real world HHP-8's never pulled the cars found on the double ended Acelas, those cars were made for and only for the Acela train set (Real life train set, not the Bachmann one) they did however pull Acela regional coaches. (http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/catalog/?function=detail&id=1120)
Those do have knuckle couplers, and are pulled buy the HHP-8's, so those may be a better choice for your son's railroad.

Bachmann also has quite a selection of other Amtrak coaches that you may want to look at here: http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/catalog/?cat_id=114&start=0&sortOrder=id

Good luck!

General Discussion / Re: A DCC question

^It may be possible to install a Marklin Motorola decoder in it, if you can A. Find one, and B. figure out how to install it. Since MM was developed for Marklin AC models. But I do advise that you look this up first. As I am not 100% on this. :-X

I think another thing that needs to be spoken about is spelling and grammar. I am not going to mention any names. But seriously, how hard is it to take 3 extra minutes to check your spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization? If English isn't your strong spot, get Mozilla FireFox, (www.mozilla.org) which has a built in spell checker, or get the Google Tool Bar, which also has a built in spell checker. (http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/toolbar/FT3/intl/en/index.html)

Ya' no? ;D

HO / Re: Which Decoder
December 04, 2007, 10:46:17 PM
No, there is no spectrum series Decoder. The locomotive will require the 8-pin plug version, even so, if you aren't sure about another engine, just buy the one with the plug, as it can always be cut off. And no, you cannot program a decoder with the E-Z Command, you can only change the address, for a more comprehensive system, I would recommend a Digitrax Zephyr. (Note, if you need to program a Bachmann Decoder with a Digitrax Command station, you must put a 1000 ohm resister across the rails.)

Hope this helps! ;D

General Discussion / Re: A DCC question

Is this the O-Scale 3-Rail Set? If so, then you can NOT install DCC in the engine. You would have to use DCS or TMCC. Both of which I am unfamiliar with. :-\

HO / Re: EZ Track radius
December 01, 2007, 02:59:44 PM
1. Numbered turnouts don't have a radius, so to speak. There is a more detailed explanation in this thread http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/board/index.php/topic,3106.msg27388.html#msg27388

And also, E-Z track uses code 100 rail.

Hope this helps! ;D

Large / Re: Fn3
November 28, 2007, 11:05:23 PM
Well, Fn3 stands for "F" Scale (1:20.3, which is just a proportion of it's size to the real thing's) "n" stands for narrow gauge, and "3" stands for 3 feet between the rails. This pretty much applies to all scales. e.g, HOn3, it is the same as Fn3, aside in the actual model's size. HOn3 means "HO" scale, (1:87.086 [Though mostly just put down as 1:87, or 1:87.1]) "n" for narrow gauge, "3" for three feet between the rails. But, there are some scales (Technically gauges in this area) with two digits. Like HOn30. No, the rails are not 30 feet apart, but 30 inches. HO = HO scale, n = narrow gauge, 30 = 30" between the rails. Or Sn42 S= S scale (1:64) n = narrow gauge, 42 = 42" between the rails.

Get how it works now? ;)

Nope. This isn't like Yahoo! answers.  ;D

Have you tried putting smoke fluid into the smoke stack?  ;)

But either way, I must agree with these two. HO Scale + Indoors + Smoke = Bad.

I'd recommend that you re-sell both the Colsol and the EM80C and buy yourself a Spectrum Connie with DCC & Sound. Now those are NICE!!! ;D
