Hi Jay,

If you are talking about the R/C 4-6-0 Big Hauler, I cant remember if the handrails were molded one piece or had the separate stanchions and the railing went thru the stanchions. You can post a picture using one of the photo apps go to your app and select the photo and click on one of the options that will allow you to copy the link to the photo and then paste it here.

Looking at some not so great photos It looks like that piece is a one piece molded handrail.

The best you can do is find an R/C loco on Ebay and use it for parts.  I did find an Anniversary 4-6-0 boiler complete for 39.95 at the link below.  Right now with the parts sale going on you could even get 25% off that and try to use  those handrails on yours. That is an amazing price.

Hope it helps a little!

Cheers & Beers!

Large / Bachmann parts sale
March 10, 2023, 11:24:14 AM
Hi all, Bachmann is having spring 25% off sale on parts only. They still have complete Chassis for the 4-6-0 Anniversary and Standard line as well. All 4-6-0 Chassis are the version 5 great running most trouble free chassis ever.  After the discount a Standard Chassis is only $64.88 and an Anniversary Chassis is going for $83.55. the sale is for the next 10 days. you do have to use the coupon code "Spring23" when ordering.

This is a great time to get new chassis for your old set locos!!!

The 2023 Catalog is also out in digital form so check it out here: https://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/

I am going thru my parts needed list for detail parts and repair parts as well to make up my personal order.

If you need Shay replacements trucks this discount period is the best time to get them as well.

Cheers and Beers.  Bill

Thanks Stan,

I definitely like the way the batteries can be installed in them without removing the shell!!  The rear coupler modifications to properly support the couplers is a big plus as well.  I always appreciate your detailed reports on the electronics!

Thanks Doug, For the alternate link.  I tested the original link and it worked for me as well.  Adam I don't know why it failed to work for you, sorry!  Will try to find a different way to post things like this.

Bachmann has announced that the new run of General Electric Dash 9 Locomotives is arriving.

here is the link:  https://mail.yahoo.com/d/folders/1/messages/81984

Being in Texas I see the real BNSF and UP -9's and would love to have both BNSF units and a UP unit so I could run two in front and a trailing DPU mid train or in the back.

Not sure what the street price will be, but I would need a go fund me campaign in order to get even one.LOL

None the less if one of you forum members get one, please report details that might differentiate it from the Aristo versions.  Paint, road numbers, details.  I will add them to my database.

That set was the only one made with LED color lights and I know of no other individual product made with color led lights that were sold separately from the set.  If you find that set cheap the locomotive would be compatible for swapping out with the ones you described in your earlier post.

Johnny,

It can be confusing, The locomotives in the sets are mostly Standard line 4-6-0 Big Haulers. They do have version 5 chassis, but do not have the more premium features such as the metal gears on the version 6 or the PNP socket in the Version 7.  Bachmann has never made it easy trying to figure things out. The Anniversary 4-6-0 is a premiun version of the Standard 4-6-0 and to some extent the version 7 is a premium version of the premium version!! not sure that makes any sense.

So confusing in fact that I can't answer your question about the cowcatcher set and be certain which version chassis it has.  I keep hoping a forum member who has bought the set can help identify the version.  Catalog pictures are sometimes not a good identification factor as we have seen in the past.

If anyone has a cowcatcher set please help me out and post pictures of the actual product.  Guesses are often correct, but until I can confirm with certainty what a new set has or doesn't have, I do not add it to my historical historical database!!

Take Care and have fun.

Johnny,

The set is very new, but I have not yet seen one and I do not know which chassis is in the set.  I do not think it is a version 7 and maybe another member of the forum can help with an answer.  Since the catalog description makes no mention of the version 7 features I feel almost certain it is not.

It is most likely aversion 5 chassis and if it is yes you could swap. Again I cannot identify which it is with any certainty.  Perhaps the Bach-Man will see this and respond or one of the members who bought one.

It is best to post a question like this to the forum rather than private messaging me. I will see all post to this forum

Hi Bill.  Thanks for your last reply.

If I bought a new Big Hauler Cowcatcher Set 90040 (version 7), would the engine & tender shells from any of the below easily swap with the Cowcatcher's engine & tender shells?  I am just starting out with train sets and don't want to get into any major modifications if possible.

Big Hauler Tweetsie Set 90033  Version 5A or Version 5B depending on year
Big Hauler Mountaineer Set 90048 Version 5A or Version 5B depending on year
Annie 4-6-0 Anniversary Edition ET & WNC 81098  Version 5
Annie 4-6-0 Anniversary Edition ET & WNC 91606  Version 6

Thank you.

Hi Johnny, I will reply to your private message thru the forum as my answers are of value to other members in a similar position as you are.

I am not an employee of Bachmann just a hobbyist like other forum members. I do not sell anything or have a store. When I comment on a problem or answer a post it is my own personal opinion. My database of Bachmann Products is copyrighted by and owned by me.    Bachmann makes products in batches and announces them and puts them in the catalog.  They then stock the item in their warehouse. They keep them in the catalog until they are sold out. Some hobby shops still have stock until they too are sold out. I try to help with questions like yours using my database.

So here we go!

The set 90033 was made in 2000 and remained in the catalog until 2013

The set 90048 was made in 2005 and remained in the catalog until 2014

Johnny in his private also asked about the following.

Annie 4-6-0 81908 It was made in 2001 and remained in the catalog until 2009

Annie 4-6-0 91606 It was made in 2011 and remained in the catalog until 2016

These are all long out of stock and made 12 years ago to as long as 22 years ago

The absolute best way to find these are on Ebay. I am not a fan of Ebay, but you will eventually find the item.  You may not like the price or even get your item in tip top condition but you will get it.

The only other way is at train selling local events or find a dusty one in the corner of a hobby shop.  You can also try large sellers like Trainworld, and others who may read this reply and suggest other possibilities or might even have one to sell.

Since you are a Tweetsie fan I wish I had better news for you, but the hunt for an item can be fun in itself!

I wish you the best of luck.  I am happy to answer questions as best I can at anytime!

Forgot to mention I used the low cost Harbor Freight two part epoxy and after all these years it is holding up fine.

Hi,
Years ago I posted some articles on how I did it. It is very straight forward but does require a bit of cutting and filling.
Here are some links to those articles.

This link is the photos which went with the original article which might be easier to see.

I loved doublheading and always doubleheaded my 4 coach passenger train and many freights as well.  I posted a video of two of my 4-6-0 going thru an Aristo Wide Radius crossover to test how it worked. I always went much slower when operating.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaKoGZwCPpc

Someone said this will work with R1 tighter switches but I will not guarantee it.  There must be better ways to do it, but this worked for me. I have never liked how far out they extended tho.

Hope this gives you some idea how to do it.

Large / Re: Spectrum 2-6-0, how many versions made?
February 04, 2023, 07:46:14 AM
Dennis,

Makes good sense to me, if you ever do want to modify it, you could ask around at your club and try to find out who modified it.

Your loco originally had a gunmetal smoke box as did all the Spectrum 2-6-0's. In many pictures this color looked black.
