Does anybody have any experience with the plaster/ HydroCal Woodland Scenics tunnel portals and retaining walls? I recently aquired some Timber tunnel portals and reataining walls and would like to paint them. Keep in mind that I'm on a limited budget, and I have the experience of a 12- year - old (which I am), so I don't own an airbrush yet.

They broke off completely, but don't worry... I glued them back together once I seperated the two portions of walls from each other...

When I get the backdrop installed on my layout ( which should be sometime around this summer), I'll take pictures of the walls installed as flats and mounted to the backdrop. Throw in some junk and weeds around the building and you have the fictional " Surplus 49"  8)

Have you ever noticed that some of the Walthers Cornerstone Background buildings are very close to other Cornerstone full-sized kits? In fact, so close sometimes I think they use some of the same tooling to make both kits. What's your opinion on this?

Case in point:

Centennial Mills:

Red Wing Milling:

And another one:

Heritage Furniture factory:
Hardwood funiture:

Today I took the building out of the freezer... The freezer method worked fairly well, except for the fact that on side of the building snapped in three pieces.  :-\Oh well...  that's what model glue's for... I hope

Make sure that the plastic rail joiners are Code 100... NOT Code 83, 70, 55 etc.

Where did you get them for $5.99? At that price , I'd get a couple of them..

Wow, thanks for all the replies...

I think I'll try freezing it first, then try the Testor's Liquid Cement method and if those two methods don't work, I'll try the hair dryer.

Thanks :)

It's probably something like model glue or plastic cement.

The Texas & Pacific called itself a railway, not a railroad.

General Discussion / ungluing glue joint
April 09, 2007, 06:20:27 PM
I recently bought a building off eBay that I had planned to convert into a building flat. It came today, and I found out that it was harder to unglue the joint that the previous owner had glued than I thought it would be. I'm not sure what type of glue this is, but it's waterproof. Any ideas on how to unglue where it had previously been glued?

There are a few out there that might be a bit smaller, though usually smaller is better when it comes to locomtives for layouts.

Here's a VERY smooth running BLI  diesel:

HO / E-Z track turnout trouble II
April 07, 2007, 09:54:27 AM
Well, it's happened again. This time, TWO of my E-Z track turnouts have stopped working, and a third turnout had its wire unsoldered. I'm pretty sure I can solve the third turnout's problem, even though I don't own a soldering iron. I think I could just take it to a place like RadioShack and they might re-solder it for me. I took apart one of my other two non-working turnouts and discovered  that the little wire thing that connects the clip of the points to the motor of the turnout has gone missing. :o Following me? The other E-Z track turnout has the same problem, and I think it's also missing the wire thingy. Does anybody know if I could send the turnouts to be replaced or if they could mail me a couple of the wire things that connect the points to the motor of the turnout?

Who has multi decks?   Not me.
How high is each deck?
How deep are your scenes?  30"
Do you use a helix or work your way up/down the room?  Nope
Do you use staging?  I plan to, if my dad lets me expand my layout.
Is your staging hidden or visable? It would be visible.
Is your mainline single or double track? Single
Do you model a prototype or freelance? Yes. The T&P
Do you model a specific era? Yes, the 1950s
Is your layout continuous or point to point? Continuous
How big (square feet) is you layout room/space? 5x9 feet.

Good Morning All,

Tony,  nice site even if the autos are much too new for my modeling time.   BUT.......here we go again.......notice that the site has larger scale cars in the 1/24 and 1/64 scales(S scale,  which has fewer modelers than O scale)......but nothing in the 1/48 or 1/50 scales.   There is a hugh hole in the modeling world when it comes to O scale modeling.    Now I know that there is a lot of 1/43 stuff out there,  but once you see true 1/48 scale or even 1/50 scale next to the 1/43,  you will see how out of scale the 1/43 stuff is.    It is great for the guys and gals in the three rail world but not for those of us in the 1/48 world.   Just last weekend I was in a local hobby shop looking for car or truck models.  I found 1/72(too big for HO),  then the scales jumped to 1/35,  1/24,  and fnally,   I think it was 1/8.   The only thing to found in 1/48 scale were airplane models.
So,  a note to Bachmann......when thinking of things for your On30 line,  consider "support" items such as cars and trucks,  people,   standpipes,  etc.   If you can do trees,  why not other things?

Bob

So you model earlier than 1940?
