Thanks for the info Tom. Does the lifetime warranty apply to the drivetrain? If so, wouldn't it be cheaper to pay the $25 charge and send it back to Bachmann for repair or replacement?

I wouldn't return it, I would pick up a set of sideframes from the parts store and replace them, it's very easy to do, just remove the trucks (1 phillips each) then 1 screw per truck, it's fixed.

If you returned it chances are since they are out of production they may offer to replace it with a Climax, but a quick phone call to them will confirm, I have always found the service dept. to be very friendly and great to work with.

It seems to me that instead of relying on the manufacturer to build a loco to suit ones needs, you should take a day or two to learn some simple and basic skills, like soldering and installing a speaker. Not really a big deal. If your refuse to to learn these simple skills, then your are at the mercy of somebody else to do it for you. If you take that road, you should be ready to accept the consequences.

I like the 2-6-0, and for the price it is an awesome value in my opinion, if I want coupler crash and brake squeal, I would spend an enjoyable afternoon installing a Tsunami, then I have a $230.00 loco, with all the sounds, and runs great. It the mindset you choose to take.

The effort you have spent complaining about this loco could have been put to better use by learning to be a modeler and not a runner. Or just take the loco to your "installer" and have him do it for you.

Bachmann hit a home run with this one, it's plain to see. Its is an excellent platform to begin with if your going to bash it and super detail it, or it is a great loco "as is" if your not. Coupler clash and brake squeal be dammed!

I refuse to pay anyone for anything I can do or learn to do myself.

According to the image its a Nikon Coolpix P500 with a f/6.3 F-stop setting,

This must be a DUH moment for me. How did you figure that out?

Rich

Rich, all digital cameras leave data on the file. If you want to view it, first you need to save the picture to your HD, then right click on the file, chose "Properties", select the "Details" tab, then scroll down until you reach the "Camera", and there you are!
It's a great tool to use when you seen a great picture and am curious about the camera and the settings used.

If you could buy a kit to convert your HO scale Bachmann 3 truck Shay into a 2 truck Shay, would you be interested?

Loose, in case you don't know you can always purchase the Fr. Mid & R. Driveline w/Gears(80 Ton 3 Truck Shay) (Ho Scale) Model: H81912.

http://estore.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66_68_92&products_id=1651

Its the side drive line assembly with the gears installed, they are easy to change out, 2 screws hold them to the truck side.

My post wasn't directed at you, it was directed at flory.

Well. That's a relief. But why are you "directing" anything at anybody??

You should ask yourself the same question.

BTW.  Geared Steam I already can crochet, cook, fly an airplane, drive a semi and navigate a ship.  I just don't know how to properly install a decoder in a Mehano 4-6-2 but I am willing to learn from others and say thank you to them.

I pay people to do stuff like that.  It doesn't cost that much and you know it will come out right.

PF

It's a good thing there are plenty of us that are capable of helping you, otherwise you would be taking up crochet.  ::)

the rtr 2 truck is very rare on ebay and i only see one every couple  months and they are always for the west side lumber co. i would like an undecorated version or a D&RGW version.

Not really, there are 3 or 4 on now, 2 of them are D & RGW.  Road name means nothing to me if I want a loco, roadname and colors can always be changed, but again I like to tinker. It improves my options.

I purchased a "ready to run" MDC Shay several years ago, I had already been through the assembly process on a MDC 3 truck 20 years ago, so I have some idea what it takes. What was nice with the RTR version is it was DCC ready, was already assembled and all I needed to focus on was the NWSL upgrades and the usual tweaking of the line shafts and trucks. It runs okay, but still not as well as the Bachmann. Matter of fact after I did the conversion on the Bachmann Shay my MDC has been boxed and stored ever since, I love my Spectrum T2, it is really much easier to modify than you would think. I have recently installed a Rivarossi Heisler oil bunker on it.
I think it would be great for Bachmann  to release a 2T Shay, all they would have to do is design a 2T undercarriage and install the 3T parts on it. A sound decoder would be a tight squeeze.

I love geared steam as well, if you want to convert a 3T I will help you all I can.

If you logged out you won't be able to log in until Monday. Starting Friday at noon thru Monday they are offering free access to member only content. The was a sticky warning everyone about the log in issue (I'm not sure why but so be it.) Try again Monday and you should have no problem.

I'm logged out too for some reason, and I never log out.

HO / Re: Powered Box Car Project
September 26, 2011, 08:13:02 PM
I've seen many examples of powered boxcars but mainly in N scale where the lighter tractive effort can limit ones train length, but since Bullfrog Snot came around it has replaced the powered boxcar option. I like this for many different reasons, mainly the ability to take a poor operating loco or critter and make it functional by using this method, in addition to adding DCC and/or sound where it wasn't possible.
