HO / Re: turnout derailments

arns

I've solved 90% of my Bachmann trunout problems by using  a Dremel tool with a pointed diamond bit to cut off the lower portion of the rail were the points meet main rail.  It seems , at least to me that there is too much up and down play on the points and they seem to hit that lower portion of the rail and than stop rather than climbing up over it.  Moving the points by hand has more force then the switch machine.  I even sometimes cut a little of the inside of the rail to male a small pocket just like the Atlas turnouts.

Tedshere,

I've had some of the plugs on the end of the green wire be defective.  Ended up splicing in a different plug or even like Joe said, an atlas controller.

I was told by Bachmann service that you get order these from Backmann parts.  Just give them a  call.

If you have any factory short pieces of straight track look on the bottom.  Some are scored so you can bend them and get a clean break.  I've just cut my own.

Dennis...........I found that using a bead of low temp hot glue along the top and bottom edges works a 1000% better than double stick tape.  With the hot glue you can still peel the controller up and easily clean off the glue.  Where as the double stick tape is on the bottom and a bear to remove.  I have moved mine several times due to expansion and none of the controllers look worse for wear.

yup,  you can use both.  Before I got the pro box I wired the red wire with plug to my service track and the other to the bus wires.  Than all I had to do was unplug that one and my service track was isolated from everything else.

Radio Shack part #6403073 telephone butt connectors 26-22 gauge  24 pack.  These are small enough to use on Backmann's turnout wires when you have to extend them.  Just crimp them with narrow pliers.

D,
Glad the tin foil worked for you but I must have a loco from hell.  Since the tin foil didn't work, Jim may be on to something with something going down the rails.

Thanks,  I'll try the camera.  I did cover the entire loco with tin foil (reminds me of preventing spying ;D) but it made no difference.  With the lights and sound on there is no problem.  Only when power is applied to the motor.  Also, only happens with the Pro Box in the system.  It got better when I moved track power from Pro Box back to the Base station.
What size capacitor should I try?

General Discussion / Dynamis Pro and Atlas diesel
June 17, 2011, 09:18:20 PM
I think I have a very unique situation.  I have an Atlas Gold SD35 with QSI sound.  When I apply voltage to the loco my Dynamis Pro looses contact with the handsets and I loose all control.  If I take out the Pro Box everything is fine.  Bachmann checked out the Pro Box already and everything was fine with it.  After getting it back everything has been fine.  No problems. But today tried running the Atlas for the first time since getting the Pro Box back and my problem is back.  If it's just sitting there with all the sounds working everything is OK.  Get it moving and within 5-10 seconds you can tell signal is lost or blast the horn and you can't turn it off unless you power down the command station or wait 'til it times out.  This has been driving me crazy (short drive) but at least now I know it's the Atlas motor causing some kind of IR interference.  Has anyone had any similar problem? And if so, what was the fix?  Thanks for any help.

HO / Re: slow and getting slower

Yup.....sent it to Bachmann.  They shipped a new one back to me the day after they received mine.  Got it over the weekend.  The new one pulls twice as many cars as the one I sent back.

Click on parts and service on this home page and go from there.  Here's some of the links.

Jim,
I did try some different speed tables but no change.  Now the loco's drive is locked up.  Started getting a little jerky in reverse and than stopped.  Turned off the sound and listened.  Sounds like something is skipping now again.  Worked in forward for a while, now won't go either direction.  Removed the boiler but can't see any of the gears.  Too many short and small wires in there for me to go any further.  Loco is only 2 weeks old so I called Backmann and left a message and asked for them to call me.  I'll call them again on Monday.  Just for reference I have an Atlas diesel with QSI with a voice readout for smph.  According to that the 2-6-6-2's top speed was 25smph (but sounded like 60)  I'll let you know what Backmann says.  Thanks for the reply.

I looked at the ehobbies.com page and they sure do say that model is dcc.  If you paid by credit card, call your card and dispute the charge.  That usually gets action from the vender.  Make copies of the ad and all e-mails.
