Never mind , the problem has solved itself by RTFM.
The decoder was unintentionally switched into consist slave mode.
And then it doesn't work....PFFFFFFFFFF

On30 / Locomotive refuses to run

I'm not going to tell you guys what kind of locomotive because it's irrelevant to the case.
Here is what happened.
I had to repair and rewire the locomotive because of wire length problems.
The OEM sound decoder also had died so i used a standard 2 function Bachmann decoder as stand in.
I programmed it with JMRI and a Sprog3 using adress 3 and ran it on my big layout using my Lenz equipment.
Everything works fine ,ran for several hours without any hick ups.
I gave it back to the owner who also uses Lenz equipment.
Nothing...dead as the proverbial doornail.
Ok , something could have happened during transportation.
Got it back, put in on my track......works perfectly.
Shoot me and my friend , we are at a total loss, what is happening here?
Btw he took it back home and it still refuses to budge.

I have a steam version , it does it's job.
To give you an advise; stick to DC or convert to DCC.
That's all i dare to say about the loc genie.

This one?
The mystery bag is coal dust.

Just put a little drop of oil where the axle comes out of the motor housing on both sides.

Did you oil the motor axle.
If the axle is dry and the bearings are a little warn you get an awful screeching noise.

And to make things even more challenging , all wires are Black.
If that's no problem , if you have a multimeter then it can be done.
As an alternative, why not look for an older DC only Porter and sell this one.
Saves you al lot of hassle.

That's not normal.
Your transformer is probably to light.
If the transformer can't deliver the amount of Ampere's the voltage will drop.
Or the motor draws so much Amps that the same phenomena occurs (highly unlikely).

You wouldn't be the first....

The internet is your best friend.
Plenty of 21 pin decoders on Ebay.
With and without sound.
DCC isn't rocket science.
