It's like this Paul....

When I sell a piece I really miss it. It leaves such a hole on the layout. But then I've got room to make something new, and I know the the new owner will enjoy it.

Yes it's for sale, and it will be one of the three or four pieces at the top end of my price list.

Thanks for the interest!

CHEERS!

Hi Everybody!

I’m getting pumped up about the Gratiot Valley Train Show this Nov. 4th! It seems to me that the show combines quantity and quality very nicely, with ample parking and still only 5 bucks to get in! I doubt if anyone would disagree that it’s the best show in SE Michigan, possibly one of the best in the Midwest.

I gleaned these off their website;

http://www.gvrr.org/

In the images below you will see happenings from last year’s show including my exhibition.

I’ll edit this thread to include a link that has photos of the pieces I’ll be showing this year.

Thanks!

Kyle Engelmann

This shot is nice because it shows four of the buildings I’m taking to Gratiot Valley.

As promised, below are links to two slide shows that display all the pieces I’m exhibiting this year. Hit the mouse during the short presentation and you can pause it.

Thanks Charles and Paul  ;D

Here is the one, the other photo is on my hard drive at home and I will post it soon. All I added was the sky... But WHAT a sky!

The black background in this pic occurred naturally. The room was dark except for the sunlight pouring in through the basement window. I also added something called motion blur to the touched-up version. I liked the impression the motion blur made.

fixed and refixed  ;D....

While I'm at it, here's another stab at photo editing;

Howdy crew!

I was playing with photoshop (photofiltre) which i don't usually do, and came up with this.

CHEERS!

Kyle

ps. in the original photo I had the sun light coming from two directions, hence the title of this thread. After I reversed the sky all was well, and I deleted the original, goofed up image, Hence the red X.... here is the corrected image.

General Discussion / Re: Wiring Wye Switches
October 09, 2007, 08:41:53 PM
6 wyes seems like a lot Bozz, do you mean 6 turnouts?

a wye switches the trains dirrection, like turning a car around when there is no room for a U turn. A turnout or switchtrack sends the train along a new route. The wires can be about as long as you need them to be...

Have you done ths yet? What kind of track are you using and is your system DCC?

General Discussion / decoder problem?
October 04, 2007, 10:39:57 AM

This ATLAS C425 II quit working this morning. I can hear noise from it when I thottle it up, but it does not move. It has a DIGITRAX decoder and I reset it to the factory settings, thats CV8=8 on this one, and now it runs well again but is MUCH noisier than it used to be....

Thoughts?

THANKS,

General Discussion / Re: I'm new - please help!

I would think you would be most pleased with the Bachmann EZ cammand system and a couple bachmann locos with DCC onboard. Run your trains on Atlas code 100 track. 1 amp will be plenty. It can power up to 4 trains at once. The size of the layout generally does not effect power requirements.

Forget about DC, IMHO.

Also, consider 5x9.... you will have MUCH more flexablilty with yor layout design and you will be very thankful you allowed for the extra space.

General Discussion / Where to buy finished models?
September 06, 2007, 01:18:14 PM
Hi All,

Has anyone a link to a site for purchasing finished models and weathered rolling stock?

I know guys sell their handiwork through “famous auction sites”… But are there personal web pages out there where people are selling to the public with pay pal/credit cards?

After great success selling my scratchbuilt structures at last years Gratiot Valley Train Show, I want to see how viable it is to go International, and I’m looking for sites to emulate. In fact, I suppose I could get ideas from any craftsman’s webpage, regardless of if it was trains or not.

Kyle

Ps. if you have any suggestions or know of any pitfalls I should be aware of, I sure could use that info, too.

Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Scenery adive sought...

Howdy!

Say, I posted this on another train forum. I’m looking for advice on how to complete this derrick scene.

The cone of sand is just that, I found a metal cone with a profile I liked, and painted it with tan, flat latex. Then I sifted beach sand over it.

After gluing the cone and other structures to a board, I put a thick coat of paint on the base board and sifted sand over the rest. I like the way the sand gathered around, but I know that when I shake off the loosen sand, those lovely dunes will be gone.

My plan is to spray it with window cleaner to break up the surface tension, then soak it with 50/50 white glue, ala ballasting. I’ll bet there’s a quarter inch of sand under that derrick. Will gluing it this way work? Will the sand glob up when I spray it? I don’t want to ruin it.

Thanks in advance...

First a kitbashed Machine Shop

... then assembled a pickle factory

planted them on the layout

... added some poplar and pine.

And that scene is done!
