Well looking at some pics in an exploded view in one of my books they look like control arms going to the whistle with a cord on the end going down to the cab interior

Question still remains why not on the Jupiter model
They are not like some obscure detail but very evident on the other models as I show in the above links

There are NEVER any "controls" on a locomotive's steam dome!

Well what ever those pipes are on the other OT 4-4-0s the Jupiter doesn't have them
You can see them here on the 119 on the top of the roof and they are on other HO models of the HO OT 4-4-0s
Does anybody know what they are and why the Jupiter doesn't have them
Maybe a control to the whistle

You can also see them on my Freelanced Fanfare Model

QuoteAll they would have to do is add sound like they did for the Mogul

In Bachmann's defense, they did more then "just add sound". Take a photo of there old 2-6-0 next to the new and you'll see it's different.

I would like to see more small+ mid sized steam models as well.

Thanks I thought all they did was add sound
Still wish they had an unlettered version

1)  Use quality HO code 83 flex track and not Code 100 EZ Track, you'll never regret it.

2)  Use 24" radius minimum curves, the larger you can fit the better, you'll never regret it.

3) Unless it can't be avoided, use number six turnouts, you'll never regret it.

4) DO NOT use a 4 x 8 or larger solid deck benchwork, you'll never regret it.

5) Build an around the walls layout, 12 to 16 inches wide or so, you'll never regret it.

6) Use DCC, you'll never regret it.

7) Pick a prototype and stick to it, don't have a variety of locomotive road names, you'll never regret it.

8) Pick an era and stick to it (No 4-4-0 steam along side a GM SD90MAC), you'll never regret it.

That's the best advice I can give.

As far as 8 goes as long as you don't have conflicting trains/rolling stock  on the layout at the same time and eral type cars etc as part of the scenery you can rotate trains and be happy

Bachmann already has a 2-6-2 out

All they would have to do is add sound like they did for the Mogul

What small engines are left
Consolidation-- Mogul-- American-- Ten wheeler are all out there
Next step up Mikado and Mountain are all out there

For 4X8s The Mikado and Consolidation are good bets and served well into the end of steam

Back in 98 I picked up a Rivarossi 4-8-4 at a train show
$150
Vendor had a box full of about 20 of them that he said he picked up as a special buy
Real bargain as they were about $250 on the market

HO / GS4

Internet sites do not list the GS4 as a Spectrum

Did Bachmann fix the problem with the wheel sets that was prevalent on the original models

How accurate to prototype is the current model
