The same holds with MRC, only the original Prodigy allowed a DC engine to run on the layout. I will upgrade my DCC system soon and still want to be able to run a DC engine at times. I have a rather large roster of engines and have not added DCC to all of the engines."

I also have a lot of DC locomotives, too many to be converted to DCC (and some not good candidates).  I hope to have room to have a DC track or two located somewhere along side or inside the DCC layout.  I'm still trying to get the bottom layer of 1 inch foam cut before I glue it down.  I have lots of time to think about what I'd like to add after I get done with the first 4x8.

Looks like a '65 VW bus I owned for a summer.  Unique.

I don't know who makes or has made Decoders for Bachmann.

The sound decoders CV values are located to the left in red & white - Product Reference -> DCC Sound -> Sound Decoders CV Defaults.

Does Bachmann make or license a multiple DCC control "device" like the Digitrax DS64 ( http://www.digitrax.com/prd_statdec_ds64.php ) or NCE Switch 8 ( http://tinyurl.com/rbkb2l ) for turnouts, road crossings, etc?

NCE has a Mini Panel ( http://murattekbilek.com/ncedcc/ ) device that will control up to 30 different switch-types or push buttons.

"You can have up to 30 pushbuttons, toggle switches, block detectors, etc.

Can be connected for control of turnouts, signals and other devices."

I know the Mini Panel is for DCC systems using ProCab and Power Cab controllers but is it for (will it operate) non-NEC turnouts such as Atlas or Bachmann turnouts or accessories?  Does every accessory require a DCC address?

The rolling stock on the shortline RR, SKOL, ( http://www.watcocompanies.com/railroads.htm ) that runs by my house is a dukes mixture of line names each proudly tagged with it's own distinct graffiti.

The Command Station is wired to the track and plugs into the wall with a transformer (wall wart).  Wen I had mine connected the most I had was a flat track with lots of scenery, tools, train parts, etc covering the 4x8.  My Command Station was located on one corner of the 4x8.  I never "aimed" my control at it.  The Commnd Station has to only be in a clear angle of view view with the hand held control - the wireless hand control and Command Station talk to each other wirelessly using RF.

As ar as hiding the Command Station - f the Hand Held Wireless Receiver can "talk" to the Station all is well.  I do not know for sure but if the Station was beneath a cardboard or foam hill or mountain or behind trees I think it would work.  It was held below track level (in someone's lap) while being used and it woked with the Command Station here.  There was 1/2" of plywood between the two units then.

How true does this hold in the 80 ton Shay case?

This was given to me by a very wise & locomotve smart individual.

Can you adjust sound volume on a DCC/Tsunami-equipped locomotive using the Bachmann Dynamis Infrared DCC system?

Yes, CVs are programable with the Dynamis Control System.  I own and use the Dynamis but have not yet had to program any CVs.  You'll need to know which Decoder you have, the CV(s) you need to program and to be safe I'd have the Tsunami User Manual and Technical Manual - available on the Soundtraxx website.

Wish I could help more.

Post a Q: to Bach-man here.

I believe the Transcontinental Railroad - aka - Union Pacific started that way with the help a a bit of sidng.

Turnouts in the rght place and/or reverse loops would make it possible with a sisding to park one on to keep from crashing.

Train sets vs. locos & rolling stock.
It's your $$.  Locos and rolling stock offer a bigger assortment of mix and match.

Metal vs plastic wheels.
Metal for sure as you can afford it.  I have several older cars I'm changing to metal wheels.

Scenemaster knuclke couplers.

Like these?

They'll save you a lot of $$ over Kadee and they work well for me,  E-Z Mate 25 pack is another alternative.  Most will tell you go Kadee.  Try one of these first then go Kadee.

I posted this in jettrainfan's topic.

$3.00 a magnet would make a nice collection.
