Call it a SevenWheeler if it really has a new chassis?
\
I don't get it Fred. A 4-6-0 is a 10 wheeler. Why would you call a new version a 7 wheeler?

Because it is Version/Generation Seven.

Fred, therein lies the rub for many of the senior modelers. I, like many, do not get on Facebook. Aside of the fact that my employer HIGHLY RECOMMENDS us NOT open our security to a medium that has many time displayed it's inability or lack of desire to secure folks PII.
. . . .

Sorry to offend the Facebook foamers, but that is my thoughts. By the way, it would have been nice if you included a means to find this Facebook provider for those who wish to pursue that avenue.
You really were on a roll that day. Completely ignored the other part of my statement:

I can certainly see why Bachmann is backing off from G scale.  They are not in business to loose money.
I have a beautiful Buick rail truck that needs a bevel gear that is not available.  I also have a 4-4-0 and the companion 2-6-0 that are absolutely beautiful models.  However I am reluctant to run both as parts are scarce.  I also realize that they can fail in the box (plastic gears splitting on axles).  I have been tempted to purchase one of the Climax locomotives. However, I don't need another dead locomotive when the inevitable happens.  I wouldn't mind paying list price for a model that I could keep running for decades.  I do have several locomotives that have been running on my garden railway, due to the availability of spare parts,  for over 30 years.

I've replaced the original cast iron weight with two 7.2 volt 6800mAh six cell battery packs hooked in series for 14.4 volts, surrounded by some sheet lead until it just fits, so a slight increase in weight and slightly better tractive effort, using Radio Control off of the same battery packs.

A wonderful way to go in my experience!
Me too. I had a long argument with certain learned experts about using batteries in the loco as weights rather than putting them in the tender.  Seems obvious to me that hauling around the weight and the batteries was silly.

I have a set of C-19 bumble-bee domes which are fluted, I believe. They are in my other home so I won't get my hands on them until early June. I am willing to sell them.

I hope that "new tender" has smaller rivets!

I am looking for a spare Kader 881 motor , the double-ended can type used in the latest locos - says 881 on the plastic brush carrier end. I got one from the estore intended for the GP50, but I assume the motor is used on several other locos?

It appears to have been used in most of the diesels - all the GPxx, and several more types.

Anyone got an old one lying around that I can use?

I'm confused.  There are no 4-6-0s in the catalog of that link posted.

Hi Mark,

There is no real way to work on the motor.  I believe you can still get just the motor, but the easy way out is to get the complete motor block.

Bill
There is a thread on LSC about replacing and working on the motor, but it probably won't help - as Bill says, even if you get a motor there's plenty of work to do to fit it.

An LGB motor block might be a good solution.

Thanks Joe.

However, the drawings do not include the front smokebox saddle and parts for locating the front truck?  Anyone know how to remove the front truck?

You'll need to take the valve gear off the axle again, slip the rocker back in the eccentrics and then install the valve gear back onto the axle.
Now why didn't I think of that.   ???  But I don't think I'll bother until the gear breaks!

Large / Spectrum 4-4-0 valve rod
October 07, 2019, 12:01:29 PM
I have a 4-4-0 and, while reassembling it after fixing the gears [see other threads] I discovered my valve rod rocker is disconnected from the valve gear slider.  Photo attached.

From the parts diagram, the pin should come out of the rocker arm, so I could twist it back into the rocker.  However, it doesn't want to turn or come out.

Anyone ever deal with this problem?

I have no experience with the handcar, but I have rebuilt a streetcar motor, and the handcar part does not look like the streetcar motor.

However, that's not to say you can't make it work.  Bachmann uses lots of standard parts so it might fit.

Well, the new gear I got from Jiro works just fine. I had to open up the center hole to 1/8th as it was a fraction under, but the loco is back in action. [Curious - he made them 3mm, I tried a 3mm drill in my old one and it fit, but his wouldn't go on the peg without a slight releif.]

Message me if you want one of these (I now have 3 spares,) or I can put you in touch with Jiro Yeramian directly - I think he made a few more.
