HO / Re: multiple decoder types on track

I was just wondering if each type of decoder should be stored in corresponding cabs.

HO / multiple decoder types on track
May 12, 2009, 12:16:03 PM
I have a 2-10-0 Decapod, a 2-6-6-2 articulated with a LENZ decoder and a 4-8-4 and a 4-8-2 on the track at the same time. The parameters for these decoders are different ( ex Top Voltage of the LENZ is set at 255 and the Top Voltage on the MRC is 32. Even set at max, the locomotives run slow except for the 4-8-4 gallops like a horse. Is it really a decoder mix problem ?
DATA - I have the MRC Prodigy Advance 2 system drivint the " git-up "

and all subject locomotives are stored in one cab along with the rest of the fleet not listed.

They had an episode in the past on Tracks Ahead where they showed how the railcar manufacturesrs painted the cars they manufactured. Come to think of it it was never shown directly how they went from a paint bucket to a finished car, althought it was somewhat obvious a silk screening process was involved. As far as decals go, it is very hard to find specific decals when you need them. I find that sometimes it takes a long time to finish the proiject and needed parts are found on ebay and garage sales. If I was a mechanical genius i probably could modify an inkjet printer to accomplish the task, maybe  ;D

You are a mechanical gfenius. Adding weight to a locomotive is always good and I favor metal bodies for both the locomotive and the tender. And if anyone invents a real heavy speaker that also would be good. And a super heavy leading truck. ;D

Good news from me. I decided to tie all the wires together making the assembly like a bridge cable with sewing thread every 1/4 inch. As it turns out the spring characteristic of each wire when bundled up, becomes like a leaf spring and puts a repulsive force between the locomotive and the tender with no side component. Problem solved and the tender stays on the track. If I may toot my own horn " well done laddie !!  ;D ;D ;D

Wouldn't be easier just to reinstall the dummy plug ?

Perhaps the model railroad companies that design/specify DCC components and use them, would not use wiring that acts like spring steel wires. Is stranded copper not possible with soft coatings, instead of what appears to be stiiff plastic ?

Mackattack is right. It is a PITA thing to do. Got to get my tool remanufactured/ modified.

Double header. Both locomotives in front of the train. it would be a similar engineering problem as the slightly offset gearing on a double axle of a semi tractor. I am guessing the aft locomotive pushes harder than the lead locomotive pulls, otherwise it would just be another railcar load. Right ?

When you have two locomotives pulling ( and assuming they are both capable of the same traction force ) what is more efficient / the front one pulling harder of the aft one pushing harder ?

Bachmann service asked for thirteen dollars for two of them, shipping and handling .

I just received the parts from Bachmann and i would like to, thru this forum, thank them for the prompt reply and care they took in packaging the flimsy parts. the check is in the mail. Again thanks for taking care of this customer. And by the way, refire up the 4-8-2 's.  ;D

remove the dummy plug and that will reveal the eight pin socket. this is shown on the tender exploded view  about half way down the view, third page of the product description folder..

I ended up buying an old time passenger car for my small tender ten wheeler and installed the decoder with the speaker in that car. Looks good and you have to be really close to hear the speaker being in the passenger car. Sure takes a long time for this one to break in and rune smoothly.
